Great hotel and amenities

Great hotel. The room was very nice. Bathroom great. Consistent hot water...yes!! Breakfast was good. Serve on the roof top terrace; it was lovely. Front desk folks were either midly courteous or plain rude. Not the most friendly. The bell man gave us the best impression. Very kind and sweet. The location of the hotel was OK but personally, if I returned, I definitly would stay near the spanish steps. Also, our room was on the top floor (5). Not recommended. The restaurant was right above our heads and we could hear the heels of walking people setting up for breakfast; very early! Not good if you like to sleep in just a bit. 4th floor would have been better since we didn't have a view anyway. Oh well...Overall, we were happy with this hotel.

Lost reservation...

Upon arrival, I was told my reservation (made several weeks in advance) had only been spotted the very morning because of "e-mail problems". I was re-located to a nearby hotel of same standing although I did not like its appearance and location as much as the one I had booked myself into. I was told I could come back for breakfast if I wanted...

FANTASTIC HOTEL

MY HUSBAND AND MY EXPERIENCE AT THE MECENATE HOTEL WAS WONDERFUL, BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE. THE TIME THAT WE WERE IN ROME, IT RAINED EVERYDAY AND THE HOTEL PROVIDED US WITH UMBRELLAS. I WOULD DEFINETELY STAY THERE AGAIN AND RECOMMEND IT TO MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

A very nice hotel let down by

A very nice hotel let down by the smallness of the "double" bed which cannot have been more than 4 foot wide. Myself and partner are smallish people, but still had difficulty getting a good nights sleep. Location just a short walk from main termini.

Fantastic Location, Exceptional Service

We stayed at the Mecenate Palace for 2 days prior to an eastern mediterranean cruise and 2 days following the cruise. This hotel has a fantastic location. It was very close to the termini station and only 2 blocks from the Metro Station. I don't recommend taking the train from the airport or to the port only because it is very difficult with luggage. The Hotel arranged a taxi for 5 people with a ton of luggage to the airport and we found a taxi from the port for all 5 of us and all or our luggage also. Trust me, this was a whole lot easier than taking the train. We were able to walk to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum and the Colloseum from the hotel. It is quite a day of walking, but it was a wonderful way to see a lot of Rome. We toured the Santa Maria Maggiore Church when we came back from the cruise and you musn't miss this. It is truley spectacular inside. The staff at the hotel are very helpful. They led us directly to the Metro to take to Vatican City and that was a very reasonable way to get all the way there. The roof top terrace of the hotel gives you beautiful views of Rome. You can see the Colloseum, as well as St. Peter's Basilica from here. The rooms are very clean, and breakfast was wonderful every morning on the roof top terrace. I highly recommend the restaurant Le 2 Collone that sits to the left of the Santa Maria Maggiore. The food is wonderful, (we even felt the pizza was better here than in naples), the people are very friendly and the house wine is delicious. Again, I highly recommend this restaurant, in fact with all of the options in Rome to eat we ended up at this restarant every night we stayed in Rome.

Staff at reception tend to be

Staff at reception tend to be helpful (Roberto and Claudio). Breakfast was quite good though some day to day change will be desirable. The location, pricing and ease of transportation are all highlights. It was a pity that the roof top restaurant was used only for breakfast as in the evening it could be beautiful(perhaps due to cold weather). Worthy of repeat visit.

Location, location, location

This was our first visit to Rome so we had NO idea where to begin finding a good hotel. Our pastor and wife enjoyed their stay at the Mecenate in early summer (except NO air yet) so we decided to book it. The location was within walking distance to many nice restaurants and a bus tour company. We felt very safe walking around at any time - it was not on a main street so was very quiet. The staff is very helpful for those who are tourists who do not speak the language.

We ate at 3 excellent restaurants during our stay and found them by asking the Italians in shops we visited where they enjoy eating.
