The Marcella Royal Hotel is a first class boutique hotel conveniently situated in the centre of Rome. We are located directly on Via Flavia, close to Via XX Settembre, in an affluent and well-to-do district. Our privileged and central location means you will be within walking distance of the city's numerous sights and attractions, including the Bath of Diocletian, Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps, Via Nazionale, and so forth. The city's main public transport hub, Termini Station, is also close by, so arriving at the hotel is easy, as is discovering the city by metro and/or bus, as well as on foot. Hotel Marcella Royal is a quality 4 star hotel in Rome which provides you with all the creature comforts and amenities that you require for a most relaxing and unforgettable stay in the Eternal City. Carefully decorated and furnished throughout, including all guest rooms and communal areas, our hotel is like an oasis of tranquillity, right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Rome. Furthermore, our multilingual staff offers all guests a professional service, and the personnel that efficiently manages the reception will be happy to suggest the best tourist itineraries, the most popular restaurants and organise personalised and guided city tours for you. When staying at the Marcella Royal you will no doubt spend some quality time on our top floor, as we are one of just a few hotels in Rome with a roof garden that offers a truly outstanding panoramic view of Rome: from the old Roman Horti Sallustiani to the Dome of St. Peter's in the Vatican. There is also no better way to start the day than by taking our full buffet breakfast on the roof garden, served either in the Panorama Room, or during the warmer months, on the terrace itself, surrounded by an incredible variety of flowering plants. A corner of the terrace is dedicated to our summer solarium and during the evening you can enjoy a romantic dinner in the bar area under the twinkling starlit sky.

A marvelous, high-value place to stay in Rome

I stayed at the Marcella Grand Hotel in Rome with my 10 year old daughter in July 2014, and it was a marvelous experience. Everything about it was wonderful, aside from our initial room (and that quickly become a non-issue). The first room seemed much older in design and, most problematically, the AC was either broken, or simply just not up to the task of taking on the very intense July heat. Despite being nearly full, they quickly and kindly moved us into a far more modern room (automated window shades, even!) with the best AC we had on the entire trip. The staff was first-rate overall, clearly taking pride in their professionalism and willingness to help. And they were over-the-top marvelous with my daughter, who felt like a "Princessa" there, with all of the candies, kid-friendly tips, and special treats that they managed to send her way during our time there. The breakfast buffet was quick and great, and the rooftop deck was an absolutely perfect way to start the day. (the deck is why I picked it initially, and that was a good call!) The location was very good for travel with kids. It is not a touristy area, per se, but it is close to key transportation options. Even so, we normally just walked to most sights, as it felt like most of the key sights were within just 1-3 miles or so of the hotel. (The airports are far away from everything in Rome, so that should not be a factor when picking hotels in the city.) The overall value of the Marcella Grand Hotel was amazing, especially considering that it cost us less (during prime Rome tourist season) than a pretty basic Comfort Inn in the U.S. would cost. Amazing.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Skip the line at the Colosseum by going into the much shorter tour line. Buy a tour. I was only a few dollars more expensive (maybe $10?) than just going in on your own, and the tour was actually quite good (and I normally dislike tours.) This move literally saved us hours in line.

Brilliant three days in Rome

Just back from three wonderful but busy days in Rome. Hotel is lovely and the best part is the amazing roof terrace. We had an economy double and although on the small side it was clean and comfortable and as there is so much to see and do you are not in the room much. Staff were brilliant and good not do enough for you. Location is good and we do walk everywhere but it is a fair trek to the Vatican so you might want to get a bus there. Top tips are too book tickets on line for the major attractions before you go including their tours. Ignore the tour touts outside attractions as it is cheaper to book on line or evenbook when you get inside. Food and drink very reasonable just a few streets away from major sites. On same street of hotel a lovely deli where you can get a bottle of fizzy and pizza for 7 euros! Watch out for pick pockets and people trying to scam you.

Nice relaxed break

The Hotel Staff were very friendly and efficient, the roof garden barman was very helpful. The hotel was in easy walking distance from many of the tourist spots and the Metro. The hotel itself was very clean and well kept, the only real criticism was that the shower should really have been in the ensuite rather than next to the bed.

Clean hotel, nice rooftop view, a little far from the main sites

We enjoyed our stay here. When we got there, they didn't have our reservation because for some reason, it wasn't sent over when we booked it online but it was resolved quickly. Our room was clean and cozy and the breakfast on the hotel rooftop was nice. The location wasn't the closest to the sites but there is a nearby bus stop.

A group of friends celebrating a birthday

The hotel is lovely, roof garden a great selling point. The room was clean and comfortable, average size. The front staff were not that friendly, they gave the immpression that we were bothering them everytime we asked a question or needed anything. The maid and porter were really nice. The hotel is local to alot of the main attractions. A big tip, use the bus it's easy to figure out. Go to Termini bus terminal near by you can catch different buses to alot of the main attractions and it will work out alot cheaper than taking a cab.

A great choice!

The Marcella staff is welcoming and helpful, particularly [...] at the front desk/concierge station. The rooms are beautiful and a solid value for expensive Rome. The best part of the hotel is the rooftop garden--beautiful flowers, great, friendly service ([...]) and wonderful food and drinks. I heartily recommend the Marcella to travelers looking for a first class, refined but relaxed hotel experience without the outrageous expense of the more well-known Roma hotels.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Marcella is away from the tourist areas so you have the neighborhood, quiet feel in bustling Rome. Nevertheless it's a medium walk or exciting taxi ride to anywhere in the city

sound and nice

Pleasant hotel but away from buzz of Roman life and not well served by public transport. No Gym. Breakfast is very basic served until 10.00, smoking is permitted (i.e. unpleasant for non-smokers) and the room terrace is nowhere as nice as on the picture. The fact that we could have only one key for the room was difficult to manage as we were not necessarily doing things at the same time

Nice Location, friendly staff

The front desk hotel staff were very friendly and spoke english well, even had a sense of humor. The rooms were Ok, very small, with a shower that I don't think a heavy person would even be able to get into. I booked as a 4 star, but I would not rate it that way - maybe a 3.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Fortunately, in Rome there are restaurants and shopping everywhere, and this was close to alot of restaurants. It wasn't a real long walk to some of the tourist attractions and so we did get alot of exercise.
