Loved it!
Honeymooner Oct 30, 2009
We changed to this hotel because we were very disatisfied with our original hotel. Everyone at this hotel was very friendly ... and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and plush. We even recieved a free upgrade on our room because we were on our Honeymoon. This hotel is about a 5 minute walk away from the Vatican, and about 15 minutes from historical Rome. The only down side was the food at the hotel. The room service is literally frozen and microwaved. The breakfast was good, but do not order room service. There are several restaurants within blocks of the hotel. Overall, I would highly recommend this Hotel!

Stress free family vacation
Rey Oct 26, 2009
We encountered some personal problem and the Customer service (CS)staffs (especially [...])works extra ordinary to make my ... stay fun and enjoyable. My family enjoys the room upgrade and the complimentary wine. The CS all speaks good English. The free buffet breakfast is good with a lot of selections (but no hot meal). Pre paid Wifi is at the looby only, pre paid internet TV (room) is available but too slow and the monitor will strain your eyes.TV English channels - CNN and BBC only. Very quiet place. 10-15 min walk to St. Peter Basilica, 10-15 min walk to subway, 5 min to main road (Bust Stop), 5 min to taxi station, bus route will lead you to all major attractions.I will use this hotel again in my next visit.Orbitz price is a good bargain compared to hotel special low price. But to meet your hotel needs, call the hotel directly prior to your trip.

great Rome hotel
Rudy Oct 20, 2009
Hotel dei Mellini is set in a very quiet part of Rome, just off the Tiber and very close to all sights. We walked everywhere ... and found many great places to eat in the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. The hotel staff are great! A very small staff, you get to know each of them well if you have a stay greater than a week. Everyone was very accommodating and even offered recommendations for any need we had.

Great hotel in heart of Rome
Andrea Oct 5, 2009
The hotel is located in the heart of Rome and is very close to all the major sites including the Vatican, Castel S. Angelo, ... Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori. The hotel is very well kept and the room was nice and clean and the king-size bed very comfortable. There are several little restaurants around the hotel which offer good food at a decent price. The hotel does not have a gym, however they have a preferential rate at a gym close to the Spanish Steps. The staff is very courteous and I would definitely would go back to this hotel next time. A great choice for a Roman vacation or business travel.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help arrange for shuttle pick up, reservations ... for dinner, recommending eateries, etc. Hotel was in quiet neighborhood, but close enought to walk to Vatican, Pantheon and more! Free continental breakfast w/capuccinos too!

Nice, clean and friendly hotel
Honeymooner Jul 15, 2009
We liked most things about the hotel. The staff was very helpful with all of our requests. Our room was clean. We liked the ... location, off the beaten path, close enough to the Metro, Vatican and great shopping/food. I'd recommend it especially if you are looking for a quite place in a city of "madness".
Traveler type: Couples
Use the Metro for getting around Rome. I'd also plan on getting outside of Rome and doing other things such as taking the Metro to the beach or to Ostia Antiqa. The highlight(s) were the Vatican and all of the church's.

For lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or bi-curious travellers looking to meet and greet. Just across from the Colloseum there are two bars, one is called "My Bar" and the has the rainbow colors just above the entry. They are right next to one another and when the weather is nice everyone is outside, talking and laughing and being social. I met people from four different countries, including Rome. Those who do not drink alcohol do not have to feel pressured, water is offered, or you can just show up and people watch, but I suggest saying, ciao, buenasera, or as I did, parla englese. What an adventure! Also, if you decide to choose Hotel dei Mellini, request an inside room, the neighborhood is very quiet and these rooms are the quietest, especially after a night of people watching...teehee :)

Not in winter
Edward Jan 1, 2009
At most other times we would have enjoyed our stay. The location is convenient to many of the standard tourist sites. The ... staff was friendly and very helpful, and the hotel's beds are not as hard as most others we encountered in Italy. The continental buffet breakfast is nice and plentiful, though after four days we were ready for a change. There is no restaurant and only a small lounge/bar, but there are some pleasant restaurants within a few blocks. The room was larger than we expected and generally comfortable--except for the heating schedule. (The hotel furnace runs only four hours in the AM and 6 in the PM; if you are suffering jet lag and in your room at other times it is chilly in the winter.) A good choice at other seasons.
