good for sightseeing

clean, comfortable hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Short distance from main sights and metro station. Only negative was the noise from early morning traffic. Front rooms could do with double glazing! Good breakfast and dinner.

Great experience; good location.

The Hotel is located within easy walking distance to the Roman ruins, e.g., the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Domus Aurelia. The room we stayed appeared to have been recently renovated; was very clean , and very comfortable. Breakfast is complementary. Right across the street there is a flight of stairs that leads up to the square of St Peter in Vincoli. a beautiful church containing Michael Angelo's statue of Moses From there it's a short walk past the Univ of Rome, Sapienza and then past the Domus Aurelia. Continuing on there are a couple of cafe's with outside seating over looking the Colosseum, where we had a relaxing moment before going down to visit the ruins. A remarkable experience/

Location, location, location???

There's an old saying "all roads lead to Rome". Hopefully they will lead you to a different, and subsequently nicer hotel. While not bad, it's nowhere near "great", and it's certainly not four star in any regard. The room was decent, and it was clean. However that's where the it stops. The hotel is location about a ten to fifteen minute walk from the central train station, and about two blocks from The Forum. The first thing they do is make a photo copy of your credit card, with scanning technology in place, you'd think that they would have updated to that at least. So make sure that you ask for the copy at the end of your trip. The staff was courteous enough, and they all spoke English. If you want internet access, you're going to have to pay extra, at about 5€ per hour. Also have some money left over, because Rome has a 3€ per day hotel tax, that for some reason is added into the price when you book, but you have to pay additionally at the end of you stay. They do have a currency exchange service, but you're better off using the ATM just down the block. As for the amenities, the restaurant had a decent menu, however the complimentary breakfast consisted of eggs that were under done, orange juice that was more like water with a slight "fruit" taste to it, and American coffee that seemed to be "American" in name only. There were your typical breakfast buffet items, such as yogurt, cereal, and canned fruit, rather than fresh fruit. The bar menu is pretty good, and they do have a nice selection of wines and beverages. There's some interesting restaurants near the hotel, so you do have a nice selection if you want to find something else. The location makes up for some of it. Some sights such as the Colosseum, The Forum, and The Baths of Caracalla can be reached easily, and are within walking distance. However you either have to take taxis to many locations, or take the Metro and then walk to whatever sight you're venturing toward. In Rome be prepared to walk... A LOT! There's a Metro station not far from the hotel, however the actual Metro system is terrible. There's only two lines, and they intersect at one location, and neither line drops you anywhere near where you're going. That was the real killer, and considering that many of the streets aren't clearly marked, it's far to easy to get lost. Be prepared to take taxis. I wouldn't recommend renting a car because traffic is a nightmare, so much so that crossing the street is potentially hazardous, dare I even say it may be "fatal" at times. The best strategy is to cross in a group of people. I developed the phrase over a couple of days "They can't hit all of us!". Seems there is safety in numbers. In Rome it rains every day, so pack an umbrella. There is a car service you can take to the airport, that will run you about 55€. Mind you that this is not a "bad" hotel. It's just nothing special. It's painfully average, or dare I say it's certainly not "grand". This is a case where location may not make up for it. Take a look at some different hotels, and if there isn't anything else available and you're back up against the wall, then it's at worst bearable.

Convenient to everywhere

The Hotel was convenient to all the sites and especially to the Metro; which we took around the city in lieu of walking. Breakfast was free and accommodating. Other than the overcooked eggs, the menu was fine. Friendly front desk personnel.

Palatino Hotel Rome AUG 2009

Great location, rooms were nice, comfortable, spaceous, clean. Staff; bell boys, housekeeping, and restuarant were great, front desk were a bit snobby and quick to hush you away. We arrived Friday afternoon stayed three nights. Visited local sights. Rooms could of been a bit more refreshing (cooler) it was a very hot summer!

Very convenient location

The location is right next to a metro station and within close walking distance to Colosseum area (5-10 minutes). The front desk clerk when we checked in was fantastic and extremely helpful and accommodating. However, for the rest of the stay, the front desk staff were somewhat rude and appeared annoyed when asked simple questions; although, they did give useful answers. The air conditioning was a godsend. The room was very clean with the exception of the carpet which needed a serious cleaning or replacement. The included breakfast was elegant and a good start to the day. We stayed in a triple room (three single beds-me, my mother, and my 13 year old son)and the size was fine. To summarize, great location if you want to be near a metro station and the Colosseum area, great air conditioning, good breakfast-would stay there again.

Orbits isn't a good service

Awful front desk people across the board, attempted to double charge us. According to the front desk it was orbits fault. All I would say is that there are numerous other hotels in Rome for the same price or less. Hotel Stendhal being one that comes to mind. Stay away from grand hotel palatino!

Good location, decent rooms

When we first arived the room was not ready. The rooms were ok. The beds were more comfortable than other hotel rooms in Italy. Some of the staff was rude. Other than this the hotel was acceptable.
