Getaway to Rome with my wife

I wanted to take my wife for a 4 day getaway to Rome, for our anniversary, and chose Hotel Executive for our stay. Our emphasis was not on having the most luxurious place to stay, because we were going to be out seeing the sights. What we wanted was a safe neighborhood, a decent room, and a 24 hour hotel staff, and we were satisfied with what we received. We are Americans who have lived and traveled in Europe for 12 years, so we know the difference between an American 4 star, and the common European standard. If you are only relating your experience to what you have in America, you will need to get over that, otherwise you will miss our on many of the wonderful experiences that Europe has to offer. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and there was always someone at the front desk to help us. The complimentary breakfast had simple yoghurt and cereal, croissants, and sweet pastry. There was always juice, and really good complimentary coffee. Housekeeping always took care of us, when we requested the room to be freshened up. We were on the second floor, room 207, which they gave me at request. The room and bathroom are small, but this room has a wonderful, large balcony, where you can sit out and enjoy the cool of the evening. This hotel is a little distance from major Metro stops, but if you don't mind walking to see the sights, you can get to the Colosseum in about 30 minutes. Otherwise the closest Metro stop (C. Pretorio) is about a 10 minute walk away. If you want to see several sights in a day, then I recommend a day (or 2-3 day) pass for all public transport. Then you will have the peace of mind of getting back to the hotel from wherever you are at a quick pace. This actually allowed us to go out in the mornings to see museums, come back in the late afternoon for a siesta, and then go into the the wonderful Trastevere are each night for dinner and nightlife. If you are not too snobbish about your hotel amenities, then this is a satisfactory 4 star hotel for Europe, & if you don't mind a little distance (and peace and quiet) from the center of the city, then this is a great choice. The neighborhood immediately around the hotel also offers some nice shops and restaurants too.

Okay if you are only in the room to sleep

The hotel was an unpleasant surprise. The room is nothing but a bed and a very tiny bathroom. If you are not a small person, the shower would be very difficult to even raise your arms in. It was near a taxi stand which was convenient, but was not near anything that you could walk to unless you wanted to walk two miles to your first site. Breakfast was a good money saver though. It wasn't great but it filled us up til lunch.

A bargain for the city!

I had one day to cover on my own. This hotel was $80 versus $500 for the company sponsored hotel. As others have said it is not exceptional roomy but my room was nice and clean. It had free Wi-Fi, something my $500 hotel did not. The breakfast was good and the staff helpful. My chief complaint was a hot room that couldn't be cooled with my in room controls. It was winter and that had the heat on. Would have been nice to have it a little cooler. The location is NOT near a Metro station so you must take a taxi or learn the confusing bus schedule to get there. The neighborhood was otherwise nice.

It was okay

The room was very small, with insufficient space if you have more than one large suitcase. The bathroom was okay, although the European-style shower would be a challenge for most Americans. The TV and cable was a joke. If you just need a safe, clean place to store your stuff and sleep while remaining close to the center of Rome, it's a good place. If you are expecting any sort of service at all, you will be disappointed.

Small and noisy

My wife and me were in Rome with a friend couple. We were extremely disappointed to discover that there is construction activity just next to the hotel. It starts at at 7 a.m. (including Saturday) and it makes a lot of noise. The window in our room was out of order, so we cannot protect ourselves from the roar. The interior of the rooms does not correspond to the 4-stars rating (except for the bathroom, maybe) -- some things simply need to be fixed. My wife missed a full-height mirror. Don't expect too much from breakfast -- you've got one sort of cheese, one sort of ham, boiled eggs, two types of yogurt, croissant, one- two types of bun, and fruits. But the coffee is excellent!

A wine bar Trimani, next to the Trimani wine shop on via Cernaia, is a wonderful place.

Good Hotel

This Hotel was not our first choice but Orbitz screwed up and cancelled our Hotel reservations at our first hotel by accident when I asked them to cancel another hotel reservation in Venice. This made the trip alot tougher since my parents were at the other Hotel:(. This Hotel was great for traveling anywhwere in rome. The #53 and #80 buses pick uo around the corner and will take you down to Barberini where you can get on the subway. The staff was good and the Coffee at breakfast was the best I ever had. Short walk ti Via Veneto where the U.S. Embassy is and Hard Rock Roma.
