Great Location, Price, Service, Room

Friendliness at the front desk! A very large and unique room overlooking the Villa Borghese was great. The bed itself was large but pretty stiff and not the most comfortable; Just about everything was in walking distance! Great location; charming Hotel although not for those who want an ultra contemporary feel!

Good value for center of Rome

This is a charming hotel in the center of Rome, adjacent to the Via Veneto, but as it overlooks the Villa Borghese, it also has an air of tranquility. The desk staff are very helpful and friendly, and all I met spoke English. The room was clean, and was larger and better appointed than I expected for a hotel in the center of a major city in Western Europe at this price level. The bathroom was very well appointed- it was nicely tiled and the fixtures were higher than expected quality with a power shower, bidet, marble vanity, and had a toilet that flushed well (this can be an issue in conservation-minded Europe). The electrical socket was well located under a built in hairdryer near a very large mirror over the vanity- the bedroom and bathroom make good use of space and are well designed- cosy but not claustrophobic. The linens and toiletries are good quality, and the number of towels and packages of toiletries were generous. The windows have room darkening shutters on them- great for recovering from jet lag. The breakfast buffet is in a beautiful room with a gorgeous view on the top floor. The food is very fresh- the bread and fresh mozzerella were increadibly so. There are also cold meats, yogurt, tomatoes, cereals, eggs, and freshly cut fruit. The buffet is very popular with the guests, so there is very rapid turnover with the food- what you want may not be there when you first look. However, the staff is very active in trying to keep the platters replenished, so it may be worth looking again after a few minutes. The up side of this is nothing is laying out for a long time. The coffee drinks come from a self service automatic machine, which I found acceptable as a morning jolt of java given the price you will have to pay for a coffee outside the hotel. In summary, a clean, comforable, friendly hotel that is good value in a great location.

Loved it!

The staff was extremely friendly. Upon arrival, which was 5 hours early to check in, arrangements were made to allow us immediate occupancy. The hotel was old fashioned but perfect for the romantic. Beautiful balcony with a wonderful view, which had flowers and small fruit trees. The 6th floor breakfast area offered an excellent view. No other meals are available at this hotel. I am accustomed to freezing air conditioning, this was not the case here, but it was still a comfortable room. In the evening before bed, I would open the window and a wonderful cool breeze would fill the room.

Review: June/July 2009

The Eliseo Hotel is situated near the Villa Borghese wall between the Spagna and Barberini Metro stops. The staff was very friendly, especially [...] at the front desk. The breakfast buffet was also very good for an included meal (cured meats, cheeses, breads, tomatoes, yogurt, some fruit, muesli, hot and cold beverages) and the view of both Villa Borghese and St. Peter's Basilica from the breakfast room is not to be missed. The location is ripe with cafes and gelaterias, though most of them catering to tourists (which is fortunate as there is no noon/evening restaurant in the hotel). Many attractions (Tritone Fountain, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, museums, etc.) are within easy walking distance (mostly downhill from the hotel). When we left after 8 days, [...] arranged for a 'comparatively' cheaper driver to take us to the airport. The rooms looked quite old and clearly need to be renovated. The bathroom was spacious and in generally good repair, but the furniture in sleeping area was spotted or ripped. The towels were changed nightly and the bed linens regularly. The cleaning of the floor was mediocre. We read a recent review on another site (TA) of bedbugs as well. While we didn't experience bedbugs or see any bugs, the general cleanliness of the hotel makes us believe that it was possible. The Internet access is a joke. It is literally a DSL line connected to an old SMC wireless router. So the WIFI reaches about 20 feet from the computer in the lounge, works half the time at best, and is fairly slow when it does. The air conditioning is lackluster as well. Rome is hot in the summer and most small air conditioners in European hotels can't keep up. The Hotel Eliseo was no different. Americans used to 90 outside and 68 inside will be very disappointed.Overall, we would probably stay there again but hope for a room in better repair. The Orbitz price is about right, we certainly wouldn't pay more for it. The location and Massimo were definitely some of the better aspects. It is at best a 3 star hotel.
