Excellent location, uncomfortable beds

Overall, this hotel is in a great location, is a functional 3* and good value for money, but let down by the quality of the beds. We wanted to stay close to Piazza Navona and this was one of the more reasonably priced hotels in the area. The location is great - 5 to 7 minutes walk from both Campi Di Fiori (great for going out in the evening) and Piazza Navona, and various other places including the Pantheon. For reference, Capitoline Hill is about 15 minutes walk away. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel entrance. It's not near a Metro station but that goes for a lot of Rome. The hotel and rooms look a bit dated and could do with a spruce. Our room was fine apart from the size and comfort of the beds - which is of paramount importance in a city like Rome where we had long, tiring days. We had a twin room and the beds were just too small (around 75cm across). If we wanted to turn over in bed at night, we had to rotate on the spot. The beds were also uncomfortably hard. Oh, and the air con in the room was weak so a bit uncomfortable in the middle of summer. Another guest asked for a rollaway bed at reception for her child but was advised they don't do rollaway beds. We also asked if they could put a third bed in our room (so that we could put them all together to make a bigger total sleeping space) but we were advised that this wasn't possible in any of the rooms. The size of the room was fine for two people but a little dark owing to the relatively small windows. The bathroom was of decent size and kitted out, apart from a shower screen that let water through over the side of the bath. The shower temperature was good but not much water pressure. Our room was at the back (not on the side of the main street). When we had our window open, a lot of street noise came through. But with the windows shut, it was absolutely fine - the only things we could hear from outside were emergency vehicles. I'm not sure if rooms at the front of the hotel were noisier. From our window, we had a view of another building just a few feet away, so no view really, and we had to keep our curtains shut a lot of the time because of that. There was a free-to-use safe and trouser press in the room and complimentary toiletries. The hotel has two lifts/elevators - the smallest I've seen in the world, but they worked fine. We booked a room only, but when we were checking in, breakfast was thrown in at no extra cost (saving us Euro9 per person per night); we're not sure why. Breakfast was ok (I shouldn't complain given that it was free for us). It was a standard continental; no cooked foods for breakfast. The breakfast/dining room was quaint. I didn't have any other meals there so can't comment on lunch or dinner. Check-in and check-out were painless, and the front desk staff were generally helpful. Despite the uncomfortable beds, I would recommend this hotel due to its location and relative affordability. The only time we spent in the room was to sleep and get ready.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Go to Campi Di Fiori for a fun night out, or Piazza Navona for something a little smarter. Families and singles/friends welcome in both but Campi Di Fiori might suit a younger group.
