A great hotel stay

The Duke Hotel is truly a 4 star hotel. The staff was very helpful, we don't speak Italian and it did not seem to matter-their english is great. The hotel offers a breakfast that is wonderful and truly 4 star. They offer a shuttle to the city center, which is quite a walk (about 1 and a half miles) We walked it but if you want to take advantage of the shuttle, you need to reserve at the front desk as it only seats 7. The hotel is quite as it is set in a residential area. There is a grocery store a 10 minute walk from the hotel. All in all I would recommend this hotel to friends and family!!

Much larger room than we expected

My wife and I were anticipating a smaller "European" hotel room, but we were blown away by the size of our "superior double" room. The room was a nice size with a balcony and a large bathroom. The closet was enormous! We enjoyed our stay and found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. One of the shuttle drivers - Luigi - was great! The shuttle to the Piazza del Popolo was great for getting closer to the city, but having to reserve a shuttle back to the hotel could be inconvenient for some. We ended up buying a cheap cell phone in Italy so that we could call and request the shuttle at whatever time suited us instead of having to make the reservation in advance and potentially feel rushed to make it back to the piazza at the end of the day. Although there's nothing to prevent somebody from going back and forth between the hotel and the piazza throughout the day, it doesn't seem like the best use of time. We found it best to leave the hotel with plans to stay out for most of the day.

Pick up a Roma Pass at the Tourist Information office at the airport to skip the line to see the Colosseum. The pass also grants free access to Rome's public transit system. I haven't done the math to tell whether or not we actually saved any money with the pass, but it definitely saved us a ton of time.

Overall it was great.

My only complaint is the bed was hard as a rock. I don't know if all rooms are that way (I didn't ask to switch rooms) but the room I stayed in had a board for a mattress. The location was not the best either. On the upside though, they had free shuttle rides to City Center that made the location acceptable. The location sits on top of a hill in a residential area so there aren't any restaurants or attractions anywhere close. The staff was GREAT and the room was beautiful. I would stay here again, for sure!

Great place to stay

Rooms were small but very clean and comfortable. Balcony was an add-on we didn't expect. Quiet restful place was fun to come to at the end of a busy day walking and sight seeing. Breakfast was the same every day but artfully presented, tasty and plentiful. Took the courtesy van into the city center every day. Even though they give you a schedule for the van, you need to make reservations ahead of time for both way travel otherwise there may not be enough room for you on the 7 sitter van.

Buy snacks and bottled drinks in town to keep in the room because those provided in the room are pricey.

nice hotel

Great hotel unfortunately on 1st night, informed that reservation was cancelled, hotel error. Alternative hotel provided for 1st night and offered complimentary 3 course meal. Collected from tempory hotel and stayed for the next 3 nights. Good breakfast and pleasant staff. Perhaps an error on the reservation by the hotel but another couple had the same problem.

Peaceful get-away after a busy day's sightseeing

A delightful hotel away from the hustle and bustle. The desk staff were very able and willing to deal with problems. Under Location we have put "needs that something special" - well, it has it, a free shuttle service every half hour down to where the action starts. We only ate in the hotel the evening of our arrival and two of four of us didn't enjoy the experience but the breakfasts were fantastic, even bacon and scrambled egg at no extra cost. We got an exceptionally good deal at this hotel and would rate it very highly as excellent value for money.

Rome Vacation

If this hotel is considered to be a four star hotel, then Econo Lodge and Best Western are luxury resorts. The only thing we are happy about that the hotel didn't have bed bugs. I would not recommend to stay in this hotel if you are expecting a four star experience. And if you stay, then be prepared that after 12 hours of travelling you will be greeted with the news that they don't have any rooms available( even if you already paid for it and requested late check-in), but they will be happy to take you to the different hotel for that night and give you an upgrade the next day which includes cracked bathroom flloor tiles, mold above the toilet and the fancy radio system in the bathroom that doesn't work. Also be prepared that your room will not be cleaned every day. For some reason staff there goes to your room, moves a piles of dirty towels from one corner of the room to another and then chooses to hang "privacy please" on your door without cleaning it. Furthermore, be prepared that 5 minutes there is at least half an hour, and you have to call a couple times before they bring you fresh towels. Two pros this hotel has: Mercedes shuttle that they use to take guests to the center city and employee Luigi who is the only one friendly face there. Also, if you decide to have a breakfast there, be prepared than everything will not be out until 7.30, and the employees would cus you out if you come in at 7( since that's the time breakfast suppose to start). Hotel is located well outside of the city center. Make sure to schedule all your entertaintments around there free shuttle time, otherwise you have to take a taxi, as taking a bus is not a desireable option, unless you enjoy a scary ride by urban bus and then a 10-15 minutes fast uphill looking over your shoulder walk. If you are looking for better option, then check out The River Chateau Hotel. This is the hotel they provided for us the first night and we wish we could stay there for the whole week.

4days in Rome

The room was clean over all but I had to ask for air freshener a few times. The internet in the business center didn't work or in my room bad connection. The hotel was a residential type area away from the main areas and the shuttle was not always available at the time you need it considering it could only seat 8. Over all the stay was good staff was helpful.
