Domus Sessoriana lies inside an Archaeological complex were there are the ruins of the Temple of Venus and Cupid. In the ancient times State councils were held, inside there is also the gorgeous Castrensian Amphitheatre, which dates back to the epoch of the Emperor Eliogabalo (218-222). In the Amphitheatre there use to take place shows involving gladiator fights and battles between humans and wild beasts; now it hosts the Cistercian Vegetable Garden. The building is divided in two sections. The Conventual's wing On the right face of the Basilica, occupies part of the Ancient Monastery, which is sited on three levels, that includes the hall, the refectory and rooms of various dimensions all delicately furnished. On the first floor the rooms are all of a superior category provided with Wi-Fi. From the floor it is possible to see the Temple of Venus and Cupid. A glazed lift allows admiring majestic canvas of the nineteenth century. The Aurelian wing On the left according to the face of the Church, occupies a building that extends towards the Imperial Amphitheatre. It is situated on five floors, which are completely restructured and delicately furnished, connected with an internal lift. The rooms look over on the archaeological remains of the Imperial Villa of Constantine, on Claudian Aqueduct begun by Calligola or on the enchanting square of Saint Cross in Jerusalem, restructured in occasion of the 2000 Jubilee. From the balcony of The Domus Sessoriana the guests can enjoy the view who overlooks Saint John in Laterano's Basilica, The Monastery Gardens of Saint Cross in Jerusalem and the roofs of Rome; on clear days it is also possible to admire the Roman Castles. The structure disposes of 60 rooms of various dimensions and different typologies: singles, doubles, a three and four bed, junior suites and suites. The rooms are elegantly furnished with handcraft furniture. Each room is completed with the maximum of comforts: bathrooms with shower and hair dryer, air conditioning, satellite TV, telephone, internet connection, mini-bar, security cassette. Several rooms are disposed of services for handicap keepers. All rooms are non smoking, according to law. Quiet and safe

This hotel is actually part of a Basilica which is amazing, nice and quiet. I shared a room with my daughter and the bed was queen sized and more comfortable than we anticipated. The room was very clean and nice. The showers are very small in Italy, but serve the function intended. There is absolute old world charm here and because the popular parts of Roma are noisy and crowded, this is a wonderful place to relax when you're tired of sight seeing. In Italy, lunch is from about noon to 2 and then everything closes until 7 PM, but you can find pizza and panini all day in most areas. There are not many restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel, but a market is just across the street. There is a breakfast for patrons of the hotel and it consists of meats, fruits, cheeses, pastries, yogurts, cereals, juices, milk tea and coffee. A continental assortment.Smiling isn't something the locals do much, but once given a friendly smile they too will lighten up and greet you in return. If you arrive with an attitude of exploration and open mindedness you should enjoy your stay. It always helps to try to speak some in Italian, they appreciate it the effort. All of the employees spoke english well. The metro is approximately a 20 minute walk from the hotel and crossing the street in front of the hotel is the best way to navigate. The bus stop is closer than the metro and tickets (for both costing 1 euro) can be purchased at the tabbacchi right near the stop, but the metro will get you where you want to go much faster. Beware of early morning travel and after work, for all public trans will be less than standing room only.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

When you tire of pizza and pasta there is a great Korean restaurant down the street called the Bi Won.

Do NOT stay here!!!

THIS WAS THE WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!!!! Whatever you do, do NOT stay at this hotel! This is by far the worst experience I have ever had in any hotel in the entirety of Europe! The floor was hideously filthy ... I had to wash the floor the first day I was there just to keep my feet from getting black just walking on the floor in the room. In addition, I paid for a double room so I could have a double bed, and their idea of making a double bed was to push two twin beds together with a sheet over the two mattresses. IT WAS HIDEOUSLY UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!!!! AND, there wasn't even a chair in the room. Now I understand why they have the caveat in the reservation that there are no refunds for early check out! I would have checked out the same day I checked in if I could have gotten a refund of the monies I paid.

Nice room , bad cleaning

I found the place quite interesting, it was a unique experience to find oneself in a historical place like this. Room was big enough, I traveled alone and my room had 3 beds, which was comfortable. However I was disgusted by the dirtiness of the toilet and bath, which I would rather not describe. At night, the noise(by other guests) echoed in the corridors, which might be unpleasant for sensitive people. The breakfast was good. I would have put one more star, if was not for the bathroom. For this reason, I myself would like to come again, but I would a bit hesitate to recommend to somebody else.

Bring good walking shoes

Domus Sessoriana appears to be part of a church organization. One side has a church, and the other seems to be private quarters. (for monks?) We went for the upgrade room, and were on the second floor with a view of the garden. Not all of the rooms were afforded this view. There were no amenities such as a gym or pool, but we were not expecting them, so we were not disappointed. We were within walking distance of all that we hoped to see, but we are in pretty good shape and walking few miles isn't a problem for us! Rome is pretty flat. The rooftop was a great place for a cocktail or a glass of wine at sunset, plus a great view of the cathedral at the end of the street. We found the selections of restaurants nearby very poor. After walking miles during the day we hoped to pick up a quick dinner to eat on the rooftop. Many of the local cafeterias were only open for lunch, and others didn't open until we were ready for bed. We ended up using the deli at a small grocery a block from the hotel. The breakfast was very high carbohydrate high cholesterol and diabetic unfriendly. They did have some good salami and cheese which we used to make a sandwich for the second day's breakfast. We left before the breakfast was to open on our second morning. There was a definite lack of fresh fruit available. The hotel did have affordable internet connections and we were able to use the wireless in our room. We enjoyed the quiet and the use of the minibar to store our breakfast sandwich. The Domus isn't for everyone, but we enjoyed it.

This is a brilliant hotel for the price, with the added bonus that it is in an amazing landmark building. The rooms are very clean, the staff very friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was plentiful and very tasty indeed. The location is excellent being only a few minutes walk from the metro and there is a bus stop right outside. Highly recommended.

More than your money's worth!

Our day began with a bountiful breakfast buffet and ended with a glass of wine while over looking the night lights of Rome from the roof top terrance...heavenly. We liked the full enclosed shower. Housekeeping did an excellent job. The location is excellent ,starting at the hotel as a tourist spot and in walking distance from others. Transportation is close to the hotel including the metro to Vatican City. Getting around the city was very easy.

This is a fantastic hotel. The

This is a fantastic hotel. The rooms are spotless and tastefully decorated and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The location for us was fine, being right next to a bus stop and within a 15 minute walk of the metro station. Various interesting sites very close by, and the church forming part of the hotel complex itself was amazing. Unlike some other reviewers, I found the breakfast selection to be perfectly adequate and plentiful. My only gripe was the air conditioning, which in our room (a quaint attic room with wood beams but a heat absorbing tiled roof above) was hopeless, and the fan provided just shifted the hot air about. The TV was also very small making it hard to see from the bed but we didn't go on holiday to watch TV so it was not an issue. Mini bar prices were quite reasonable for a hotel too. Would defintely use this hotel again.
