Casa Howard Rome on Via Capo le Case, 18 was opened in year 2000 and resembles an English-style guest house, although inside a historic Roman building near the Spanish Steps (more about the Casa Howard Concept). Walk up the marble steps and enter a heaven of peace and quietness after the hussle and bustle of the Spanish Steps area. A cosy, charming Rome accommodation, resembling the private house of a stylish friend, with high wooden-beamed ceilings and parquet floors, 5 rooms, decorated with taste and comfortably furnished. This intimate & luxurious Guesthouse has a fantastic location by the Spanish Steps, unusually designed rooms and first class service. We treat our guests like friends and all is based on trust. There is also a Turkish Hammam Bath to help you relax after a long day walking Rome, the Eternal City. (Unless you are a guest of the Chinese Room, booking the Hammam is essential.) All Rooms have: * TV with satellite channels * air-conditioning (please be aware that although we have new and perfectly working DAIKIN and MITSUBISHI A/C systems installed in our property, during Summer when outside temperature is exceptionally high, we cannot guarantee an inside temperature below 24C degrees) * tea & coffee making facilities * Wi-Fi Internet * hairdryer Please note that for all arrivals starting 1st of January 2011 a city fee will be applied: 3 Euro per person per day. This fee is not included in the hotel rate and it's to be paid directly at the hotel. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Our check-in time is between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Should you check-in after 9 p.m. it is necessary to let us know at least 1 day in advance , otherwise 100 Euros will be added to your bill ( sorry we have to call in a Housekeeper ).

great location but poor amenities

I go to Rome about twice a year. So certainly I know my way around. I normally stay at 3 to 4 star hotels but wanted to experiment with something different this time. Well I felt I got burnt by my indiscretion! The only thing excellent was the location. This hotel is located on the 2nd floor of a residential building. Interior was not well kept and needed a lot of tender touches to stay competitive. My room didn't even have a phone. If I had any issues, I would have gone downstairs and knock on the owner's door. If she is out doing errands and stuff, then you are out of luck. Unfortunately, I would recommend against booking this hotel unless they are having a fire sale.

Great value

Do not expect to find a sign on the building, as this guest house is a large flat converted into 5 guest rooms, 2 of which are en-suite, the other 3 have their own private bathrooms located in a hallway at the far end of the flat. Make sure you ask for an en-suite if you don't want to travel back and forth between the bedroom and your designated bathroom. However, this is the only inconvenience we experienced. Each room, including bathroom, has its own decor/theme and is tastefully furnished. We loved our Moroccan style bathroom!!! We also upgraded our bedroom from the Chinese room to the Blue room for extra floor space to accommodate our luggage when we checked in. Location is great, 5 minutes from the Spanish Steps, Fountain of Tivoli.
