With its red-brick frontage adorned with Classical porticos, the 19th century building of the Augusta Lucilla Palace Hotel Rome assures you of an authentically Roman stay. A part of the Globe Hotels brand, well-lit red surfaces and wood-accentuated decor impart a warm glow to the hotel's lobby and rooms, while the multilingual staff make sure guests receive the right tickets and prices at the tour desk. Nice hotel

We enjoyed staying here. The location was great, and the staff was very helpful. You get a nice clean room. The bed was comfortable too. I think it was a very good value compared to other hotels we looked at. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to our friends.

Great staff and central location

The staff of the hotel was excellent including Georges, Gian and Tiziano at the front desk. If you need anything at the buffet, Luigi is the best !! The hotel is a good value and has a great location near the train station. The reception desk knows everything you need to have a great time and is more than willing to provide all the assistance you need, plus speak several languages.

WIFI was not available for 6 days, that was bad! The lock on the room did not properly work, that was bad! Breakfast was average but plentiful. Staff was nice to work with despite the other items of concern.

Great value for money.

Very effective air conditioning. Even when on all night was not noisy at all. A surprisingly quiet and peaceful nights sleep every night (especially given proximity to train station etc, and the fact that I am a very light sleeper). No restaurant for lunch or evening meal. Though not a problem as there was plenty of choice on the doorstep. Friendly, helpful staff. Knowledge of bus numbers/routes to all main attractions etc in spoken English too. Plenty of choice and quantity for self service buffet breakfast. Well stocked bathroom extras (shower cap, toothbrush and paste, razor, hairdryer, soap, shampoo, shower/bath gel, 3 sizes of towels for each person!) Very spacious room even with 4 sharing, they haven't squeezed extra beds/rooms in. Quite unusual in our experience. Rooftop garden is just a little paved outside area on 6th floor with a few patio chairs and a table - you have to search for it as it is not signed/labelled. Absolutely spot on. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Turn left out of hotel then left again down the first turning. There are two restaurants down this road. The first one you get to is by far the best value for money. The second is a little pricier, but then they add 20% service charge on top (in the small print at the bottom of the menu!). Can recommend the Prosicuto and Melon starter and the Bruschetta with tomatoes. I even had both as my main meal one day!

Not as good as expected from other reviews...

VERY surprised at the glowing review of this hotel. Being near Termini is it's major redeeming point. Hard beds and very small room. Bathroom was good though. Definitely a budget hotel that is touted as better than it is. WAY overpriced for what you get and the area of town for sure.

adequate

Adequate room. Very small for two people. Bathroom is tiny. Wish it had a full shower. Not as many amenities as I expected.

Good Value; Spacious Rooms

This is a nice hotel tucked away in a neighborhood close to Termini station, making it very convenient to get to and from FCO airport. It is not central to Rome's main attractions, so you must be willing to walk quite a bit as the Metro system (located at Termini) has limited coverage of the city. Staff was friendly, polite and accommodating. Our triple room was far more spacious than I expected and located at the back of the hotel, so there was no issue with street noise. Mattresses were firm, but comfortable. My only issue with the bed--and this is not unique to this hotel--is there wasn't a top sheet. It was either the heavy duvet or nothing, so to be comfortable, you had to really lower the temperature in the room. The bathroom was much larger than other bathrooms I've experienced across Europe. It was well stocked with simple toiletries, nice big towels and a hair dryer. Shower door did not stay closed (other reviews mention this) as there was no magnetic closure. We solved this by throwing one of the smaller towels over the top of the door. Housekeeping was very good. We came back every evening to a very clean room and clean towels. Breakfast buffet was fine, but would be improved with some healthier options. They did put out whole pieces of fruit, but the oranges and apples we tried were old. Coffee was not great, but you could ask the staff to make you an espresso drink and they were very accommodating. Free WiFi did not work continuously, logging you out after a relatively short period--a minor inconvenience.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Rather than shelling out 15 Euro per person for the train to and from FCO airport, we used Alitalia's bus service, which was only 7 Euro. Takes a little longer, but brings you right to Termini station.

Great hotel for the price

Stayed at this hotel during the first week in March 2013. Great location near Termini Station and within walking distance to most major tourist attractions. Desk staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Plentiful breakfast with usual cold meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs, cereals, rolls, pastries, juices and fresh fruit. Very nice, clean, comfortable rooms. Nicer than I expected. Would stay here again.

Nice hotel in the tourist center

If you want to see the Colosseum, the Vatican, etc... and enjoy the center of tourist Rome this is the perfect place for you. The hotel is 2 blocks away Termini (the bus & train terminal) and just a 12-minute walk to the Colosseum. Bus #40 from Termini will take you straight to the Vatican. The location is just great. However, this is not the location if you're training to enjoy great Italian food. All the restaurants in the area are mostly tourist traps, giving you bad & expensive food. Coming from New York I wanted to try some amazing pizza, or traditional pasta, or eggplant dishes. None of the above. I could find better Italian food at any restaurant in NYC. But if you just take the bus outside the center and find a nice quiet local restaurant and you'll be fine. A good thing about this hotel was the breakfast. Even though they have basically the same thing every day, it's a good hearty way to start the day. The staff if also really nice. I recommend it. Just beware of the restaurants near the center of the city.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Buy your tickets to the Colosseum & the Vatican Museums through their websites before you get to Rome. You'll be able to skip the extremely long lines outside the ticket booths and head straight in.
