With its red-brick frontage adorned with Classical porticos, the 19th century building of the Augusta Lucilla Palace Hotel Rome assures you of an authentically Roman stay. A part of the Globe Hotels brand, well-lit red surfaces and wood-accentuated decor impart a warm glow to the hotel's lobby and rooms, while the multilingual staff make sure guests receive the right tickets and prices at the tour desk. At the end of a long day, you can sink into the adjustable Smart bed in your room - positioned however you like - and the substantial American-style buffet breakfasts served in the Augusta restaurant will satisfy the heartiest appetite.

Not as good as expected from other reviews...

VERY surprised at the glowing review of this hotel. Being near Termini is it's major redeeming point. Hard beds and very small room. Bathroom was good though. Definitely a budget hotel that is touted as better than it is. WAY overpriced for what you get and the area of town for sure.

adequate

Adequate room. Very small for two people. Bathroom is tiny. Wish it had a full shower. Not as many amenities as I expected.

Great Experience Except for the Shower!

The hotel is in a great location, near all of the attractions but off the main drag so the noise factor is reduced. The breakfast buffet was ok but doesn't open until 7 am so for those days that our tour pick-ups were at 7 or soon after we couldn't always take advantage of it. The only real problem was the shower. It has one of those combination hand-held/stationary shower heads, but it wouldn't stay stationary so you had to always hold it, which wouldn't be so bad it the water temperature wasn't equivalent to the temperature of the sun. The water is so hot that I actually scalded my feet on two occasions. the water doesn't drain well so the scalding water pooled around my feet. I learned that you have to let the water run a few minutes and then the cold water finally reaches the shower and the temperature of the water becomes more tolerable. But if you turn the shower off, even for a couple of seconds, then turn back on, you have to wait again for the cold water to return. And while you are waiting the shower head is flopping around because it won't stay put in it's holder and then the floor becomes flooded. So a great overall hotel, but be careful in the shower!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Buy your Green Line day passes from the street hawkers instead of buying them when getting on the bus. The bus company charged 22 euros for two people for one day, but the street vendor charged only 18. After some haggling, we got it down to 17, a 5 Euro savings!

Good Value; Spacious Rooms

This is a nice hotel tucked away in a neighborhood close to Termini station, making it very convenient to get to and from FCO airport. It is not central to Rome's main attractions, so you must be willing to walk quite a bit as the Metro system (located at Termini) has limited coverage of the city. Staff was friendly, polite and accommodating. Our triple room was far more spacious than I expected and located at the back of the hotel, so there was no issue with street noise. Mattresses were firm, but comfortable. My only issue with the bed--and this is not unique to this hotel--is there wasn't a top sheet. It was either the heavy duvet or nothing, so to be comfortable, you had to really lower the temperature in the room. The bathroom was much larger than other bathrooms I've experienced across Europe. It was well stocked with simple toiletries, nice big towels and a hair dryer. Shower door did not stay closed (other reviews mention this) as there was no magnetic closure. We solved this by throwing one of the smaller towels over the top of the door. Housekeeping was very good. We came back every evening to a very clean room and clean towels. Breakfast buffet was fine, but would be improved with some healthier options. They did put out whole pieces of fruit, but the oranges and apples we tried were old. Coffee was not great, but you could ask the staff to make you an espresso drink and they were very accommodating. Free WiFi did not work continuously, logging you out after a relatively short period--a minor inconvenience.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Rather than shelling out 15 Euro per person for the train to and from FCO airport, we used Alitalia's bus service, which was only 7 Euro. Takes a little longer, but brings you right to Termini station.

Good base of operations

Augusta Lucilla Palace Hotel is in a great location close to tranportation hub at Termini and to lots of restaurants and shops. It was very clean and offered a decent selection at the breakfast buffet. The staff was friendly and helpful, as well. Room itself was just adequate, with barely enough room to get around the bed when the luggage rack was open, but the bathroom was large and modern. Overall not a bad value for a large European city.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Hop on, Hop Off bus is a great way to get acquainted with the city. You can get it near Termini station (to the left in front) or around and behind the terminal. Info and tickets can be purchsed in the hotel office or on-line.

Overnight in Rome

Very large room and very comfortable, helpful front desk staff even provided boxed breakfast when we were leaving early. Shuttle to airport from hotel equivalent in cost to train but with much less hassle.

Room change

When we 1st arrived we were given a very tiny room. The air conditioning did not work told us it would work tomorrow. Also WIFI not working. They changed out room and it was a lot bigger and very nice the air worked as did the wifi. Didn't like the charge for local calls. Was not able to reach person I was calling but got a voice recording.

An excellent city break

The staff here couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our stay in Rome and really cared about the Hotel and their guests. The buffet breakfast was fantastic and was constantly topped up as the Hotel was full and very busy. We would totally recommend this Hotel!
