With its red-brick frontage adorned with Classical porticos, the 19th century building of the Augusta Lucilla Palace Hotel Rome assures you of an authentically Roman stay. A part of the Globe Hotels brand, well-lit red surfaces and wood-accentuated decor impart a warm glow to the hotel's lobby and rooms, while the multilingual staff make sure guests receive the right tickets and prices at the tour desk. At the end of a long day, you can sink into the adjustable Smart bed in your room - positioned however you like - and the substantial American-style buffet breakfasts served in the Augusta restaurant will satisfy the heartiest appetite.

Nice Place Near Train Station

Nice place - good breakfast. Within walking distance to/from bus/metro station. Long walk to Coliseum and other historical sights but you can do it - we did until we found the metro and it only cost 1 Euro (best bargain in town). Rooms are small compared to US, but nice and comfortable. Make sure you put your key card in the light switch thingy to keep the lights on so you don't get stuck in the bathroom when the lights go out! New experience for us - it was hilarious! Only dislike: NO WASHCLOTHS

don't waste time searching for a good place to eat, just walk out the front door of the hotel, turn left to the end of the block, turn left again, and walk 1/2 block to a great place to eat (La Galena Bianca)

Rude, Obstructive Desk Staff !

Positive: Location close to Termini, but not to the major sights, so you do have to travel; excellent ristorante a block away "Il Passageros Ristorante & Tea Room." Room very clean, had a locking safe; nice bathroom with properly installed tub, shower and curtain. Free breakfast was pretty good.Negative: (1)One desk clerk (tall, slim, slightly bald, with glasses), was totally arrogant, rude, unhelpful, even deliberately obstructive. A local friend of ours kept trying to reach us by telephone with an urgent message, and he told her that there was no one checked into our room number! We were waiting for her in the lobby, and when we asked him if any calls had come for our room, he said "No", and did not tell us she was trying to reach us! We were treated as invisible, prob. b/c we booked through [...]. He was awful. We are very polite, highly educated, well-traveled Americans, but this man treated us as if we were ignorant bums.We thought the French could be rude, but this guy put them all to shame. I could almost understand if it was Summer and the hotel was very busy, but business was very slow, so you would think they would be grateful for the guests they DID have. (2)The telephone was rigged so that we could not get an outside line to make local calls, only LD credit card calls. (3) The television was un-viewable, nothing but "snow". We plan to return to Rome, but will not stay here again, and will not recommend to others. [...] and other travel websites, be aware that your customers are "marked", and given sub-standard service in these hotels. But if they do not want your customers, then they should not participate in the program!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

If you use the "Hop On, Hop Off" tour bus, just be aware that they give you a little earphone to listen to a canned set of descriptions, which are very sparse, and is mostly music. It's good to do once to get the "lay of the land" but not as a way to get information.

Good place to stay in Rome

Small sign at entrance, beggar sleeping across the street, had to watch for where he went to the bathroom on the sidewalk. Hotel was clean and friendly, staff was helpful. Ask them for recommendations, they made several great ones. Checking reservations is hard with no way to contact but to call. Email address would have been nice.

Good location but amenities lacking

This hotel was very easy to find from the train station and not in a bad area. The rooms were ok, but ours was small. There was also construction going on to add more rooms and that was distracting for the inner courtyard view. The internet access is pricey. The breakfast buffet was lacking; watery eggs, burnt tasting coffee, and no fresh fruit. Compared to the other two hotels we stayed on our trip, this was the least favorite. We think this hotel is a work in progress, not sure if we will choose again.

very beautiful place to stay

This is a very beautiful hotel that is walking distance to termini central. All of the hotels we have stayed at have really firm matresses! Maybe Europeans like it that way. Otherwise, a great place to stay.

Clean, Comfortable, Accomodating

We needed close access to the train station and the hotel was within walking distance (couple blocks away). Ours was just an overnight stay and though our room was small, it was nicely decorated, very comfortable bed, spotless bathroom & quiet. Staff was very accomodating-dinner reservations, taxi, directions & walking map. I would stay there again, if I needed the train.

good value for the price

The proximity to the Termini station makes the deflated dollar less painful if you are willing to learn the metro and bus systems. Short walk to station and lots of restaurants within short walk. Some with tourist menus.. Best buys are at the cafeterias which are everywhere. Look for advertised NO seating fee or expect to pay Don't miss the S. Maria Maggiore basilica just down the street. Stop and relax at a sidewalk cafe for a cappucino or glass of wine but better street scenes out of the hotel neighborhood. The staff was willing to help with area referrals but turns a deaf ear to complaints. The rooms are very small and the AC was off and could not be turned on.. We sucked it up due to 65 degree weather and opened the window but lots of street noise disturbed rest. good beds. Nice bathroom with bidet.Very cleanThe breakfast was better than expected with eggs pastry and cereals. Charged 3euros for small pitcher of ice. Probably does not deserve the 4 star but we would return.[...]

Use the metro system to get to most tourist sites for 4eu can get a full day pass or pay 1eu for a 75 minute pass. Bus travel is a little harder to figure out but worth the savings to give it a try. We were able to use TrenItalia to go to Tivoli which was a nice break from the city. NOT very helpful staff though.
