We needed close access to the train station and the hotel was within walking distance (couple blocks away). Ours was just an ... overnight stay and though our room was small, it was nicely decorated, very comfortable bed, spotless bathroom & quiet. Staff was very accomodating-dinner reservations, taxi, directions & walking map. I would stay there again, if I needed the train.

The proximity to the Termini station makes the deflated dollar less painful if you are willing to learn the metro and bus ... systems. Short walk to station and lots of restaurants within short walk. Some with tourist menus.. Best buys are at the cafeterias which are everywhere. Look for advertised NO seating fee or expect to pay Don't miss the S. Maria Maggiore basilica just down the street. The staff was willing to help with area referrals but turns a deaf ear to complaints. The rooms are very small and the AC was off and could not be turned on.. We sucked it up due to 65 degree weather and opened the window but lots of street noise disturbed rest. good beds. Nice bathroom with bidet.Very cleanThe breakfast was better than expected with eggs pastry and cereals. Charged 3euros for small pitcher of ice. Use the metro system to get to most tourist sites for 4eu can get a full day pass or pay 1eu for a 75 minute pass. Bus travel is a little harder to figure out but worth the savings to give it a try. We were able to use TrenItalia to go to Tivoli which was a nice break from the city. NOT very helpful staff though.

If you are going to phone America or Canada from Italy, buy the 5 Euro calling card with the yellow background and the red image of North America on the front. This card provides for 10 full hours of long distance talking time -- and we didn't pay more than a 20 cent connection charge from any location in Italy. At most hotels, we didn't pay one penny for our calls to America using this card. The card was a great value for the money. Also, there is a great little restaurant (Paolo's) around the corner and up the street two blocks from the hotel. Great food, reasonably priced wines, and no service or cover charges. Two of the restaurants within a block of the hotel had outrageous service charges and charged extra for bread along with the entrees. Also, one restaurant near the hotel gave us a menu with no prices listed -- while they gave Italian speaking customers a menu listing the prices. We later found out the same restaurant also charges a cover charge for Americans -- and not for Italians.

You get What You pay For....
Tony Nov 16, 2009
This hotel is quite practical for arriving by train at the central station in Rome, the Termini. This is an advantage, ... because a taxi in from the airport will cost you in excess of euro 70.00 and will take forever. So you pay 11.00 by train, and arrive much quicker, and about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. Very practical. The rooms are small, but immaculate, modern, and nicely finished. great bathrooms. My only gripe would be that the sound insulation between rooms is not perfect, but it never is. The staff are reasonably helpful and friendly. The breakfast is ok, the standard fare, but they failed miserably with cold scrambled eggs every morning. Their heating trays just don't work. But for the off-season price, who's complaining?..This is a great hotel at the price for a brief stay in Rome.

We stayed for 4 nights and had a lovely stay. The room was a modest size -- but not cramped as are many European hotels. The ... maid service was excellent. Everything was spotless. The daily breakfast, which is included with the room, was one of the best we have seen in Italy. We were impressed by the fact that the hotel paid for our cab ride to airport when the shuttle they had ordered for us didn't show up. Also, we had to leave the hotel for the airport at 6:30 a.m., which was before breakfast was served. The people at the front desk (who spoke English) had the kitchen staff prepare us two boxed breakfasts to enjoy at the airport while we waited for our plane. That was nice, because the morning airport food was not too appealing.

Corkyzmom Oct 12, 2009
This is an all right place to stay, convenient to the Termini and Metro, but in my opinion the 4 star rating is quite a ... stretch. Our room was very clean, but also very small. Our shower was a tiny corner unit, so small that we had trouble actually getting clean. Also there was no shower soap dish, so when your shower is finished you're left with a slimy cake of soap in one hand and nowhere reasonable to put it. The room lighting was so dim -- despite an adequate number of fixtures -- that we couldn't read ordinary print at night. The air conditioning worked fine, but operating the thermostat was a mystery. Our room faced a side street with some traffic, but noise was not a problem. The breakfast was just awful -- horrendous coffee, fake orange "juice," and stale rolls. There was a selection of cereals we didn't try, and also some kind of yogurt machine. There were off-tasting slices of ham and salami, along with some cheese slices wrapped in plastic. Ugh. All in all, I would stay here again in a pinch, but I would inquire if there is a different bathroom situation -- and certainly I would have breakfast elsewhere.

Beware of the "sit down fee." If you sit down to eat, expect to see a fee on your bill. Yes, a cover charge for eating there. We paid 9 euros just to sit down, (about $15 bucks!) Didn't have a band or entertainment or nothing. This is in additon to your food. Ask before you eat. Some places don't charge it but most do.
