At the beginning of twentieth century, Baron Baratta took over what remained of the ancient monastery and restored to a summer residence. Only in a second time, the villa, was transformed from a private residential house into the Hotel. Since its opening, the hotel welcommed famous personalities, such as the Duke of Windsor and rewarded and famous actors and actresses such as Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart who were hotel guests, attracted either by the Ligurian sea and by the charm of this gorgeous structure. The property is made by two separate structures: the hotel Splendido, situated on the hill overlooking Portofino, one of the most prestigious Italy seaside resort, fully surrounded by a mediterranean park, with lots of flowers, evergreen plants, trees and bushes and the hotel Splendido Mare, set, instead, in the heart of Portofino, overlooking the Piazzetta and the small harbour.
