The Hotel Grand Italia was very satisfactory for our stay. It is right across the street from the train station to take a train directly into Venice. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and had all the ammenities we needed. They do not
have a restaurant in the hotel but were able to recommend one to us. The front desk staff was rather indifferent and somewhat cold. One neat feature...the room key was needed to operate the electricity in the room. Energy saving! The neighborhood around the hotel and train station could be seedy, especially late at night, but noone ever bothered with us. I would recommend the hotel as convenient to Venice, clean and reasonably priced.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short walk from hotel
A great restaurant within waliking distance was Jolly One.
The hotel is located right across the street from the train station ... which is very convenient, but the area is questionable, to say the least ! The hotel itself is clean, the room spacious, but a little dated and the pillows are awful !
There's a little bar area on the first floor. The man at the reception desks calls for the bartender, who arrives, fills your drink order, then leaves. The process is repeated each time you want another drink. There were sites to see in this city, some a short walk from the hotel, but the area around the hotel felt pretty dicey. We felt very uncomfortable walking around, not just the hotel area, but throughout the city. The only place in Italy where we felt that way.
