Nice, but kinda far away from the old city
The staff here makes the stay worthwhile - very helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions. Comfortable lobby and bar area, though the bartender is sometimes scarce. Good free wifi access in the lobby, but not in the rooms. Rooms were small and dark and kinda run down, but clean. Although its close enough to walk to the train station, take a cab to avoid having to hike up a major hill on a busy street. Walking to the old city takes about 15 minutes, and can be unpleasant if the temps are hot, like they were when I was there in June.

Short walk from hotel
Rent a bike and ride around the old city walls - an easy way to see the whole area. There is a large flea market inside the eastern wall on Saturday mornings in the summer.

Fantastic staff made my stay great
My stay at the Napolean hotel was just about perfect. While the rooms are a little dated, the rest of the hotel was very nice and clean. On arrival to Lucca's train station, we walked to the hotel. While I wouldn't recommend this, it wasn't too bad. Without luggage, it wasn't a problem walking into the main part of the city (as this hotel is outside of the city walls). A great perk with the hotel is that they offer free bikes to use while you stay. The bikes aren't great, but worked just fine to take into town and ride along the city's walls. Also, the hotel is on a busy road, so I would recommend getting a room that doesn't face the road. Can be a little noisy. What really set this hotel apart (and drove me to write my first ever review) was the staff. They couldn't have been nicer and more informative for me and my friends. Each staff member went the extra mile for us every time we had a question or needed help and never were they anything other than kind and friendly. I highly recommend this hotel for any travelers going to this great town.

We found the hotel was clean,
We found the hotel was clean, the staff friendly, and the ten-minute walk to the centre of the old city most manageable. We particularly liked the lovely large shower. Oh, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. I would not hesitate to stay there again and I would recommend it highly.
