Great place to stay if you have a car.

We visited the old town of Lucca and Pisa when we stayed at the Grand Guinigi. It's fabulous part of the world. The hotel was slightly further than we expected from the old town and you had to walk on the road at times but parking was easy near the old city. Hotel parking was easily available. The hotel itself was very clean, the beds were firm but comfortable, breakfast was excellent with both American style and European breakfast foods available in plentiful amounts, and the staff were helpful and polite. A couple of irritations were that we could hear our neighbouring guests and the lifts,of which only 2 of 4 were working, were extremely slow, so we enjoyed the exercise of taking the stairs. The bar in the lobby was well priced and welcoming. This hotel was very good value for money and I would recommend it.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Lucca has a beautiful old city with much to stroll around and admire. Take the 4km walk (or hire a bicicle) around the old city walls. The Puccini concert in Chiesa e Battistero dei SS Giovanni e Raparta is definitely worth a look and listen.
