Exceptional resort!
Luxury accommodations, spacious property. Exceptional staff, very helpful and welcoming. On the outskirts of Florence's bustling city, but well within a short shuttle (complimentary) ride away.

Beautiful place - a really nice stay away from the centre
It was a really pretty place and we had a great room. The beds were comfortable and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was really nice and had a lot of variety. The only two small downsides were the internet/wifi (it was extremely slow and kept cutting out) and it was a little far from the centre of town. Loved the place though and would stay there again.

wonderful holiday!
We just got back from our week at the Villa Olmi Hotel. We loved it there. The staff is unbelievable! Friendly, courteous and helpful, they fulfilled our every need and answered every question. They were so polite and pleasant and all spoke English. The grounds were well-kept and manicured, with a very nice pool and plenty of lounge chairs. Service at the pool or in your room was very good. The food was excellent although dinner at the hotel restaurant was expensive. We found that in Italy, it is best to order the pasta rather than the meat dishes. When we first arrived, our little refrigerator was not working. We needed a refrigerator, and they assured us it was working. We waited 24 hours but it never cooled off. They graciously offered us another room, which was much bigger and nicer than our original room. Our first room was a little small, with very little space around the bed. Our second room was much bigger, with a sitting area and large windows overlooking the grounds. All the rooms have very large spacious bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs and beautifully done in marble. Rooms are air conditioned and pleasantly cool. Our week was extra hot during a heat wave but our room was comfortably cool. The outdoor pool was very welcome too! We used the free shuttle service into Florence many times and it saved us money on taxi fares. However, the latest shuttle coming back from Florence is at 7:30. Most restaurants don't open until at least 7:30. So we had to take a taxi back from dinner. The other issue seems to be very common on our trips to France and Italy. And that is the comfort of the bed. Mattresses seem to be as hard and flat as the kitchen table and pillows are so flat and thin. Neck and back support are not good. We had them put extra padding on our bed, and slept on the blankets, just to make it more comfortable. But we have found this to be a problem at every hotel we have stayed at in Italy and France too. It is hard to get used to, when you wake up with a kink in your neck. Another wonderful perk was the (included) breakfast. We found it to be wonderfully good. Some people said it was "okay" or "adequate" but it was so much better than that. It was stocked with everything you could imagine, from scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and toast to sweet rolls, croissants, all kinds of fruits and cereals, cold cuts, salads, etc etc. The best breakfast buffet I have seen in Europe ever. The cappucino was great too! All in all, I would definitely go back to this hotel. The staff was fantastic, and worked hard to make our stay very special. Our room wonderful, spacious, and relaxing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a very peaceful, quiet and well-run Villa.

Dining tip:
In Hotel
Steaks in the hotel restaurant are sold by the kilo. We did not know this. We saw the price of 55 euros for the steak but that was per kilo. The steak was over 2 kilos. So the bill came as a shock to us. Since we speak very little Italian, we did not know this. We are seasoned travelers and we expect these little surprises from time to time.

Good hotel, not in town
While this hotel is a fair distance outside Florence, it is a very comfortable place to stay. The hotel staff was very helpful, and the facility was very nice. Breakfast was good. The free shuttle they run to Florence is nice, but only 4 trips per day; 2 in the am 2 in the late afternoon, and the shuttle is small so space is limited. Taxi fare was about $25 to or from town.

Great experience
The Manager and the staff are very professional as well fantastic hosts. Great experience and highly recommended. The hotel location is outside Florence but still with a shuttle service available for the guests. The city center is not so far away but to be considered according to the type of visit it is planned. Driving with car make it easier access from highway and parking is not a problem at the hotel.

First Time To Florence
Villa Olmi - November 2011
Wonderful! The staff were superb: friendly, attentive and always willing to lend a hand. The property itself is awesome. It sits within well-manicured and tended grounds. Although close to a fairly busy road, it was generally country quiet. The restaurant was very good: food and service excellent. We had the house pizza margherita our first night as we were too lagged to stumble around anymore. It was excellent. Our room - classic standard - was nicely appointed, with plenty of space and places for our clothes and such, and was kept up very well during our stay. We chose not to rent a car and used the bus (Linea 23A) to get into (Fermata: Park Pino) and back (Fermata: Olmi) from Florence (avg 20 min ride). The bus stops we used were each about 1/4 km from the hotel and easily walkable. We noted only two downsides. First, from the sound of it, all the room baths have whirlpool tubs. I'm sure this is a keen feature for some, but it's a real annoyance when the neighbors pop it on, especially at 23:30 when reveille is at 04:00 the next day in order to catch a morning flight. Second, and this became less of an issue as we grew accustomed to the area and to how things worked, the virtue of seclusion and distance away from things was a bit of hassle. We are the type of traveler that likes to play tourist during the day, then head back to the hotel for a clean-up, nap and drink, and then head back out looking for someplace to have dinner. The round-trip time between downtown Florence and the hotel generally put a damper on that approach. Overall, we (the two of us) highly recommend the Villa Olmi resort. The quiet at night and the Villa Olmi experience (staff, amenities, breakfast buffet, restaurant, and the property) was well worth the daily expense and time into downtown Florence.

If you intend upon using the bus, see the ATAF web site and pull down the route maps and overlay those on your tour map before you go. Unless you are very familiar with Florence, this will help you identify those stops closest to your destination AND which stops can be used to transfer to another linea. We never did find a printed route map during our stay there.
