Not as expected

The room was dirty and cold, we wore our shoes at all times. Shower very small. Reception was not much help and there was lots of noise overnight both from neighbors and outdoors. Stayed only one night instead of two.

Good for multiple days

This is a good choice for those who want a no frills but nice and clean hotel at a good price. It is a typical Italian hotel (ceramic tiles, cold bathroom, hard beds, need to turn in your kyes at the counter, etc.), but it is spacious. The service is generally good, bit it is no frills. The breakfast is better than most Italian hotels. It is a good choice for the price. It is a bit north of the center of city but is in a nice residential area. In sum, it is no Sheraton or the like, but if you want a better than average Italian hotel at a good price, it is worth considering.

Ricasoli

The hotel room was spacious and they cleaned it every day. The breakfast was wonderful. The hotel was in a good location and within walking distance of all major sites in the city. The only downside was that you had to pay for internet (3 euros for 1 hour). We would stay here again though.

Sleeping in Florence

I thought the hotel was in a unique and pretty building. Our room was very spacious: twin beds in one room and an adjoining living room with fridge/kitchenette. There was a TV in both rooms although we didn't use them. The bathroom was also very large. The walk to the center is about 15 minutes at most, which didn't bother me at all, but there were definitely a lot of closer hotels. The neighborhood is really pretty with some little cappuccino places close by. There was a trattoria right across from our windows where we ate one night and enjoyed, but it gets busy there later at night and was pretty noisy. The breakfast was good.

Wonderful time

Great, great staff. Very friendly, respectful, and very helpful. Probably the best hotel staff I've ever encountered anywhere. The breakfast spread, including the pot of delicious coffee at your table (and server [...](sp?) a delightful young man), was terrific, a highlight. Fresh juice choices, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal if you want, but the fresh pastries and cakes were amazingly wonderful, delicious. (Hard to go back to my American breakfast now!) The bar in evening was great too; I enjoyed a glass of good Tuscan wine and the hors d'oeuvres several evenings after day of sightseeing -- just right, just great.Very quiet rooms, large room even for a single guest. Well-cleaned and refreshed room each morning. (Watching "Star Wars" and John Wayne Western in Italian was a hoot.)First night, found the shower was slow draining. Reported it in the morning, and within 10 minutes, a staff person came to check it and immediately had a housekeeper clean out the drain. No other problems. Large fat terry towels, and good hot water. The "green" electrical system in the room was interesting, and good for them for using it.My last day (9 nights here) I did not need to leave town until late in the evening, and they held my luggage without qualm. Also large, easy-to-use safe in roomy closet. Loved the wooden blinds you could close at night, and direct for light but block direct sun.Delightful, comfortable place.Oh, they don't mention but...there is a very clean, convenient laundromat right across the street. If I'd known, I would have taken fewer clothes.

Made my trip the best

This hotel was really nice. But the staff were the nicest people I met in Italy. I was trapped in Italy because of the Iceland volcano and the staff was so helpful and sympathetic to my situation that it made it almost OK to be stuck there. The manager said they had something like 60 cancellations because of the no flight thing that was going on and still gave me a break on the price for my extended stay. I stayed an extra 3 days in the hotel and really loved it. If I return to Italy again I will definitely stay here again without question.

Beautiful Hotel

Everything at this Hotel was EXCELLENT except for the fact that the city of Florence has changed its traffic patterns. There are no non-resident traffic allowed in the center of Florence. We planned on renting a car, but we were warned that if you turned down the wrong street cameras would take your picture and the rental company would get a 100 euro fine. Also, all of the city buses have been re-routed to the outlining areas. This meant that we had to walk a tremendous amount and this hotel is about 12 blocks from the Train/Bus station. But is was great each night to finally get back (after walking all day) to this beautiful hotel.

Ideal for groups, hidden challenge for individual

The Palazzo Ricasoli is well appointed, adequate lounge and bar with WiFi, good dining room with full breakfast included and good service. My room was actually a suite with full sitting room and a tiny kitchen in a closet. Full bathroom with adequate closet space and suitcase benches; no drawer space. There were parking facilities and a garage for drivers. It is best suited for those with cars or for tours who have buses and guides to escort them around the city, since the location is several blocks from Piazza San Marco and Sta Annuziata and the Duomo. Buses are available to the Stazione and downtown on two nearby streets Via Cavour and La Marmora but a bus map is a must to handle the return to the same area. Tickets from a nearby bar-tabacchi are 1.50 euros, hop-on-hop-off for 75 minutes, validate once. All of which makes it do-able for a repeat visitor to Florance, as I am, but unwieldy for the first timer unless he-she is a sturdy walker, can map out a trip, and can brave the summer heat. Also, there is only one person who helps with baggage occasionally. Three people at reception, all of whom speak English, but give little guidance in how to get around. Cadogan guide book gives by far the best information on what to see and how to get there of this part of the city.
