The hotel Helvetia & Bristol is a magnificent urban palazzo in the centre of Florence, a short walk from the Duomo. Excellent

Our stay at the H&B was fabulous. The hotel is beautiful and our upgraded (gratis) room sumptuous and spacious, replete with two bathrooms. The style is Brit in Florence, as it was formerly such a haven. Breakfast was lovely, but best perhaps was the concierge staff. While we had researched restaurants and sites well, their friendly suggestions, including on dining were invariably great (especially those of Carlo). Of course too the hotel is most centrally located--immediately near the Duomo and Uffizi, yet not on a tourist-infested street (it's quite elegant). This is perfect for anyone, especially those with children, who wish to rest between outings. I would happily stay here again, and again! Which is more than I will say, in fact, for Ca Sagredo in Venice.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Il Latini was great for dining, as is the restaurant of the owner's brother, the latter being somewhat more formal and frequented by locals. Great food, and atmosphere at both. We also took a guided tour of the uffizi through the hotel, with the young children, which went surprisingly well. Skip any tour of the David at the Academia--it's about the David (and the few statues leading up to him) so go yourself without a guide!

Great Location

This Hotel is in a great location. Staff is very helpful, particularly the concierge, [...]who gat us tickets for the Academia and Ufizzi and also a reservation at an excellent restaurant for New Years Eve.The rooms are quite small for the price, although this may be normal in Florence. Also very hot - we ahd to sleep with the window open which guarantees an early start when the bells wake you.
