Rude and arrogant receptionist- stay away

The hotel receptionist was rude and was mumbling to himself angrily when we asked questions about the internet. He was downright insulting and unprofessional. Even though this location is convenient, I regretted staying at this pathetic hotel. The rooms were dark and dreary with deep green bed coverings and a mustard painted room. Terrible tasteless decor! The bathrooms were crampy and planned terribly- the water splashed out from the shower leaving a muddle everytime on the bathroom floor. Since the reception was so rude I asked the hotel bell boy/supervisor?! for help. They changed the shower curtain which helped a little.

Unimpressive rooms - good location!

The hotel has a very pleasant (almost swank) lobby but pls note that the rooms are EXTREMELY utilitarian (no windows/outside light/ no décor on walls, no tissues in bath). I could not recommend this hotel if you are planning on spending a lot of time in your room. That being said, we slept well, breakfast was plentiful and served elegantly. Front desk was helpful and you are extremely close to the market for leather goods and the produce market. Hotel is one or two blocks from train station.....very close to all major sites.

Holiday to Florence

Staff were welcoming on arrival at reception. I was disappointed by the room though as extra little touches would have made it so much better. There was only 1 small wardrobe for 3 people so my husband and son lived out of the suitcase. The beds squeaked very loudly every time you turned in the night so sleep was limited. There was only 1 pillow per person. I had to wrap my over blanket up as a 2nd pillow and left it there hoping the cleaner would take the hint but it was not to be. Everything seemed an effort for the reception staff. They need to smile more and greet there customers each day as they come and go. The barman however was amazing! Very friendly, bubbly, gave advise and tips on where to go. Nothing was too much for him. For us, he is the sole reason why the hotel is still in business. Waiters were very friendly too. Breakfast lovely. Did I mention the paper thin walls? Another reason for not sleeping. We could here parents in the next room shouting at their kids, people running up and down the steps, going in and out of their rooms at all hours. The list goes on. The location was fab though, right into the market, very close to food hall and a further walk around the corner to the duomo. Train and bus station just around the corner too.

Your bill can soon escalate when eating out due to a few things. 1: service charge, roughly €1.50/person. 2: water, they bring your drinks and then ask if you want water. It is the bottled stuff, ask for tap water, €3-4. 3:bread: they don't always ask, they just sneak it on. €2. Depending how many there are of you your bill can soon be another €10 each time which everyday soon mounts up. Shop around for ice cream, price varies a lot. Tubs are generally cheaper than cones. Don't forget the city charge, €3/person/night. Another €66 at the end of the holiday and it has to be paid in cash. We took €1200 for the week for 3 of us. People said we would have more than enough but we didn't, we had to be careful each day about what we spent. Majority goes on food and drink.

Overall great experience

Nice hotel in a great location. Close to the train terminal and other attractions so easily made a day trip to Pisa. Had vendors right outside of my second floor window, but with the window closed, was not an issue. Breakfast had a great selection of food items.

Great location

I would recommend this hotel to others looking for a hotel in florence. The location was very close to the train station and we are able to walk to everything that we wanted to see in Florence from our hotel. Staff was very helpful when needed. The breakfast was very good. Rooms were small but very clean.

*Location Location Location*

This hotel is within a very short walking distance from the train station SMN (Santa Maria Novella). It is also within a short walking distance of the major must see attractions like the Duomo & The Uffizi Museum. There are several great bars, shops & restaurants at its doorstep. Best of all there is what we would consider a flea market right on the side street of the hotel where you can purchase some quality leather goods & trinkets for great prices! (Make sure you walk around first before buying anything as some stands have better pricing & you can haggle too.) The hotel staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms have older furnishings but are well kept & the room was very clean. They also had some really good english channels which helped tremendously as I have insomnia & watching TV is the only thing that helps. Our rate included breakfast which was great! Good selection & very tasty. The only negative about the hotel is that there is no free wi-fi. You have to pay depending on the amount of time you want. Other than that, there is nothing else negative about this wonderful hotel. I would highly recommend it & will stay there again when I visit Florence again!

DO NOT use any currency exchange stores. They will rob you blind! Their exchange rate is brightly posted but they fail to disclose their fees until its too late. They will refer to a small paper sized notice with tiny print that "discloses" their fees. We were charged about $50 US dollars when we changed only $200. The girl admitted that she would get fired if she ever disclosed their fees to any potential customer. She is only allowed to discuss the change rate. Needless to say, this was a rude & expensive lesson to us.

Touring Italy

This hotel has a great location to train station and major attractions. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Unless you enjoy sleeping on concrete the bed was deplorable, we tossed and turned all night. (there are multiple hotels up and down the streets near the station)

There is a grocery store just down the street towards the station. Instead of the pricey cost of dinner out we would shop at the deli and bring it to the room, there's a small refrigerator.

Disappointing

This hotel was in a good location, but we were disappointed. First of all, our room smelled musty/sweaty the whole time we stayed. I tried to spray some Febreeze and it helped a little bit, but not enough. The hotel lobby area is very nice and matched the pictures, but the rooms did not live up to the pictures. They looked similar, but the rooms in the pictures are very well staged compared to what you get. The breakfast was just okay.

La Burrasca is just around the block from this hotel. Get there right at 7 or get a reservation. Order the Gnocchi with Tomatoes and Pecorino and the side of beans and red sauce (share the sides, they are huge). Everything we got was delicious!!
