Terrible, don't bother!

Sorry this is a long one but I want to provide as much information as possible. We stayed in this hotel Oct 5 – 7, during which it was rainy/humid weather in Florence. Therefore, one of the first questions we asked was how to operate the air conditioning. The staff turned it on for us and we left the room. When we returned several hours later, it felt like a sauna. We called the front desk and the staff that came up to look at the a/c, while agreeing that the room was exceptionally hot, said he could not do anything and said that he thinks the a/c system was turned off altogether. He said that he would let management (morning shift) know so that they can help us. Management never contacted us nor made any attempt to help. The only other option we had was opening the window but not only were we bit by mosquitoes, the rooms are so close together (and to the main staircase) that whoever passed by saw freely into our room. So basically, there was absolutely no solution and we had to “sweat it out.” The room overall was VERY dark and small, to the point that we felt like we are staying in a cave. The bathroom was even worse. It literally felt like it was made out of paper machete. The shower cabin kept leaking water and there was absolutely no room to move in there. My fiancé is 6ft tall and he kept hitting the shower head. There was barely room to put a tooth brush on the sink, no shelves…absolutely horrible. Good luck shaving (male or female) or putting on makeup in there. The wi-fi barely worked. I could not write/send an email in one sitting because connection was so spotty. On our last day, there was no connection at all. Front desk said it would be fixed by 11pm but when we checked out the following day, it still wasn’t working. On the topic of being told something that isn’t done…Sat night before going out for dinner, we asked about booking tickets to the Uffizi Gallery. Alexandra and another female front desk staff both told us to come back the following morning and they would make a “no-line” reservation for us. When we asked Sunday morning, the male at the front desk told us that the reservation office is closed on Sundays. When we saw the two women later that night, we mentioned this to them and they said “yes, reservation office is closed on Sundays.” I was really trying to keep my cool but I did make a comment about the false information they gave us and they pretended like they didn’t know what I was talking about. Needless to say, we never made it to the Uffizi Gallery. Lastly, we asked for late checkout to give ourselves some more sight-seeing time, and Alexandra said "normally we don't do this but because you had so much trouble, we will do it for you." That really made me wonder - if they knew that we had "so much trouble", how come no one said anything to us or tried to help somehow?? We traveled through 4 different cities while in Italy and did not expect luxury from any of the hotels, just a decent, clean place to sleep. However, this hotel was just a nightmare and ruined our time in Florence. The ONLY good thing I can say about it is that it’s about a 5min walk to the Duomo but then again, Florence is kind of clustered together so I’m sure there are plenty of other good hotels just as close.
