...a window onto Piazza Maggiore... Just off Piazza Maggiore, right across from the antique Clock Tower from which the hotel gets its name, this Art Hotel represents the ideal stay for those who love atmospheric historical flavour without forgoing the comforts of a modern hotel. Hotel Orologio is a delightful and charming hotel with a view of the citys most venerable landmarks: the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo d Accursio, Palazzo dei Notai all frame Piazza Maggiore, one of Italys most beautiful medieval piazzas. Our warm and welcoming tea room offers a moment of repose in the tranquil peace of a typical Bolognese palazzo. It central location provides the ideal starting point for sampling the events, museums, theatres, culture, and shopping that Bologna has to offer, all close at hand.

Terrific Location, & Not w/o Its Charms.

We stayed five nights while in town for a business fair. It was terrifically costly per unit of space and given the obvious age of the rather musty building, but that is to be expected for the location, which could not possibly be improved, and the time of choice being when the smallish city's overwhelmed with visitors. This is a classic tiny EU hotel; old edifice, narrow staircases, some compulsory stairs before the tiny lift is accessed. The room was very small indeed, but had some nice accoutrements; fine Italian linen sheets, a terrific short and rock-hard mattress, heated marble for the bathroom. Couldn't get the air conditioner to do what it was supposed to, and that's par for the course in my EU experiences, so we opened the windows (thus automatically disengaging the AC) and enjoyed the fresh air with compulsory extreme city noise. As a former Manhattanite of a decade and always in cheaper digs, I didn't mind the boisterous cascading sounds wafting to the room so much. Breakfast buffet bordered on terrific, and their cappucinos are absolutely exceptional, even by the extreme standards of Italy as a whole. No help offered or implied to get our luggage up to our top floor, or down, and on a Sunday morning when I needed to get ~4km to the business fair's location I asked the attendant at the hotel desk, word for word, "Can you call a taxi for me?" "Yes, I can" was her reply, and then she asked me for my room number. I told her. Thereafter six Germans came into the tiny lobby with luggage, so I made my way outside on the cool morning to await the taxi...ten minutes passed, then fifteen...my wife became angered and marched back inside, and it turns out that the attendant, and I cannot possibly believe this as I write it, presumably thought I was asking a RHETORICAL question as to whether IT WAS POSSIBLE to call for a taxi, rather than me wanting one right in that moment. To think I didn't want to go back inside during that pointless wait to ask if she'd called the cab because I was afraid it would offend her to imply that she wasn't doing her job. All this for $___ a day, and if you knew the "___" you'd be aghast, too. That's Italy; you either love it or you don't. I happen to love it in spite of stuff like this that's very hard to swallow. We ended up having to walk several blocks to the city perimeter and taking a hopelessly crowded bus. You can go here and enjoy it tremendously in the right frame of mind. The location's too good to refuse.

During the summer, they show movies in the piazza next to the hotel. Also, the farmer's market is close by.
