Extremely convenient - across street from Stazione Centrale. Room was very small by US standards but very clean. Taxi to the airport was there within 5 min of front desk calling them.

Very nice hotel
Location next to the ferrovia was helpful. Great (!) gelatto stand on the corner. Room was clean and comfortable. The large garden courtyard was a nice surprise--great for getting away from the busy front street.

Excellent city hotel
This hotel is very conveniently located immediately across from the Bologna Centrale train station. A 4 star property, it was exceptionally clean and appears to have been recently re-done. The rooms were quiet and decently sized with comfortable beds, linens and pillows, safe, minibar, free bottled water and free wireless internet. The individually controlled HVAC system worked well (it was in the mid 80s) and was quiet. Old fashioned room keys that were left at the front desk and provided without ID gave us some concern about security. Rooms to the rear overlooked a lovely park-like courtyard. Rooms to the front showed an uninteresting city vista The included breakfast consisted of a wide assortment of both European and American hot and cold items. A coffee machine made individual servings of cappuccino, latte, espresso, and Caffe American. The menu and breads and pastries were the same each day, however. This hotel caters mostly to business travelers and did not have a concierge desk. However, the front desk staff spoke excellent English and were happy to answer questions, give suggestions and help with arrangements. A 24hr city bus pass was included. All in all we felt this was equal to a 5 star hotel and highly recommend it. As a tourist destination, Bologna doesn't offer much. There's the usual Cathedral, Church buildings and shopping areas. I had hoped to visit Europe's oldest Medical School and University, established in the 9th century, but there were no tourist accessible venues other than old, dusty zoology museums. We could not find a tourist information office and info at the hotel was limited to a few restaurants. If you;re just touring, don't spend more than a day here.

Short walk from hotel
Restaurant Bolognese is a 2 min. walk from the Mercure Hotel and train station. We ate there twice. The food was excellent. Rather that dining out side, go down into the basement which is like a wine cellar with exposed brick and trendy lighting. Eat with the locals here and avoid the smokers outside. The menu features many mushroom dishes and we liked the mushroom risotto and tagliatelli with Porcini. The grilled veal chop and veal cutlets with tuna sauce were also outstanding.

Great Hotel and Location
Nice room with view of garden. Have to go to the lobby to use WiFi. The best breakfast we had during our 3 week travel through Italy. Bologna was a wonderful city to visit!

Good, but could be better
The good: great location, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, spotless bathroom; the could be better: the bed was old, uneven and needed to be replaced; I was in a room facing the train station and morning sun - it never got completely dark. The room needs blackout drapes. I would stay here again but ask for a room on the back side of the building.

Great time in a beautiful city
Arriving at the train station I was glad the hotel was across the street! It is literally right around the corner from shops and a brief walk to historical sites. The staff was helpful and the room was fine. As a student here in Italy I do not have a lot of money. This was a much needed break from school and staying in a hotel with a bath tub was a real treat! I have been here 3 months and have soaked in a tub 2 other times. Overall my experience at the hotel was great.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Wear good supportive shoes. The streets are cobbled and uneven so walking would be difficult in heels or sandals. There is so much to see in this historic city that is close and free.
