Not a place to rest

Hotel is centrally located in a night clubs and strip joints area. It sits right next to a popular and loud club that goes strong with blasting hip hop stile tunes until after 5 AM practically every night. My first 5 nights were in a room with window bars. With windows closed and the AC switched on I heard the blasting music and noise that were still very loud. For the last several nights I changed the room to the quieter side of the building, and it was not really quiet but bearable. Beside that I killed a cockroach one night and was concerned about not bringing these "gifts" back home. Staff was good, but it did not negate the above mentioned issues. Overall, the hotel should be rated at one star. The three star rating is misleading and misrepresenting.

Good Hotel in a Bad 'Hood

Sun City is located on a very unpromising stretch of Allenby. It shares the block with head shops and strip clubs. But inside it's clean and well-lit, and staffed by friendly and professional people. The bathrooms are immaculate. The housekeeping folks are polite and thorough. The front desk people are helpful and courteous. Room includes TV and fridge. And while the block on Allenby may not be much to look at, do not miss the chance to stroll down Bialik (there's a cafe on the corner) and visit the historic Bialik House (home of the famous writer) and Old City Hall, where Meir Dizengoff served as the city's first mayor.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Bet ha-Ir, Old City Hall, is not just a monument to Tel Aviv's first mayor, but also houses fascinating historical archives and modern art exhibits. Don't miss it.
