The Strand is a good hotel while in Limerick on a business trip

The hotel is in a good location, right across the Shannon River from lots of shops and restaurants. There are also lots of places to walk and it feels very safe even if you are alone at night. There is a parking structure adjoining the hotel so if it is raining you can get to your car without getting wet. Parking is at a premium here so that was a big plus, parking was 5 Euro per day. The front desk staff is ok, not overly helpful but OK. The maintenance staff was extremely helpful! Myself and my co-workers all had the same problem with our rooms being very dim. The light bulbs are just not bright enough. Also, they do not have air conditioning when it is not summer and it was very hot in our room. Maintenance was not able to turn on the AC but they did turn off the heat and gave me a fan and, with the window opened it was comfortable. Maintenance also changed out all fo the light bulbs for me with brighter bulbs. I think the staff person’s name was Eric, he was GREAT!!! The resturant is good and the bar is also good. Breakfast is a very nice buffet with lots of choices. They do have room service with a couple items even available 24hours a day. The bathroom is very roomy and had ample counter space and good towels. The only bad thing was the very limited choices of television programming. No sports channels (we went down to the bar for some matches/games).

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The French Table is not far from the Strand and we highly recommend it. It is near the Clarion hotel and is about a 15 minute walk or short taxi ride away. They have great food and drink and excelant customer service. We loved this place! Also the Cornstore is a very good (and lively) place for a group dinner, it is about the same distance away from the Strand. Great food and drink and great staff. The Cornstore is on Thomas street

Castle Hotel Dublin - I expected more

The staff is very friendly and helpful with giving directions and with making your stay as pleasant as possible. The resturant is really good on Friday and Saturday nights because they have live music and it is really great. The dinners were very good and we would recommend the resturant for dinner. The breakfast is very disorganizeed, there is not enough dining space for the number of guests and the buffet is a joke. They will bring you a full irish but they need more staff to handle the size and number of guests. We would not recommend the breakfast at all. The hotel front desk sells tickets for some of the things you might want to do at a good price and that is a plus. The room is OK, we were in a twin room, nothing special but it was fine. The bathroom is very small with the tinest shower I have ever seen. There is no counter space at all so toiletries that would not fit on the sink went on the window ledge. The hotel is old and you can hear every sound from all the rooms around you and the hall outside your door. We could hear everything from the rooms around us including sneezing and snoring! The windows are also single pane glass so even if you have your window closed you will hear every sound from outside.too. We were not on the street side, we faced an alley full of garbage and people were walking throuth and yelling during the night. It is not right next to anything but it is close to the hop on hop off bus stop, within 15min of Temble bar area and not too far from the bus to the airport if you don't have too many bags. The area does not feel safe if you are alone. There is a bank with an ATM about one block away. As others have commented, the configuration of the hotel is very strange and there are fire doors every so many feet, you can take the lift to your floor but you will still have to deal with lots of stairs and narrow halls depending on where your room is located. Difficult to get our bags to the room with these obstacles. Also, there is no vending in the hotel if you need something like a soda or bottel of water you will need to go to a store that is a couple blocks away. It was an inexpensive hotel but should have cost much less in my opinion. I would not stay here again.

What a great place

The place was amazing. The bar was also great and the food was ok,..I think they should offer a shuttle to and from the airport. The attraction we pretty cool, and the shopping was pretty great also. If we ever come back to Limerick...we'll be staying there. Cheers. Mike

Strand Hotel

I had expected more from a hotel that is rated as a 4 star hotel, especially with respect to breakfast. The hotel has an average buffet with typically Irish dishes, but nothing special or outstanding. I have stayed in many 4-star hotels and this one needs to work on its breakfast. Lunch was significantly better and actually quite tasty. The room was very clean and had a modern ambiance. Free internet was greatly appreciated.

Absolutely fantastic

Location of this hotel was fantastic - we also got a great deal for the night, although it didn't include breakfast. Parking was €5 for overnight, which wasn't disclosed on the website we booked on, but it was as small fee so didn't influence by review really. Beds were kingsize and very comfortable, bathrooms were immaculate with shower stall and bath

A Great Last Night In Ireland

Wonderful room - exceptionally pleasant staff. It was our last night in Ireland and we wanted to be close to the Shannon Airport for an early morning departure. Hotel is less than a 20 minute drive to the airport. Got a suggestion from the staff for a restaurant and it was a fabulous meal and experience - a short walk from the hotel.

Despite the booking excluding

Despite the booking excluding expressly children's breakfast (and therefore confirming adult's breakfasts) the hotel initially refused to honour it. I was locked in the toilet for 20 min due to a broken lock. Gladly I had my phone on me and could call the reception for assistance. If returning to this venue I will request rooms above the 3rd floor as the lower floors get noisy at night when a function is hosted in the hotel.
