Great if you have a car, & even if don't
the westwood is a very pretty hotel about 5min by car/25min walking outside of galway city center. it has an historic feel given all the wood paneling and the great bar, but it is extremely well-maintained and clean. the guestrooms are roomy with good bathrooms (great sinks!) and the housekeeping and restaurant staffs are great even if the front desk staff is a little less than welcoming. we drove to galway so it was perfect for us with lots of parking. city center is walkable for the energetic, but i'm told there's a bus and a cab to/from eyre square is under 9 euro. our rate (jul09) was usd150/night for a double and we thought that was pretty good value.

the bar is very charming and the service is good. make time for at least one pint there.

Nice hotel
This hotel was very nice, the room was clean and big; the bed was comfortable; the bathroom was very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is outside of the city center, about a 25 minute walk to the city center/bars/restaurants.

Long walk from hotel
There aren't a lot of restaurants in the area. The hotel restaurant looked nice but was a little expensive, so we ppted to go into the city to eat.
