I wasnt sure what to expect when I turned up at Dan O'Haras. I work as an entertainer and have stayed in B&B's all over the country but I was stunned when I saw the amazing slice of Irish culture that Martin and his wife have created !
Now what do
I mean by slice of Irish culture. ..Martin is an Irish historian and fine builder. The farmhouse he's converted to a high modern standard but what makes this so impressive is the setting . Martin has built a historical heritage centre around the B&B!!
Straw Crannogs, traditional stone beehive huts and he's completely restored Dan O'Hara's cottage which sits (with a magnificent view) on the top of the hill to the rear of the farmhouse! There is also a small museum with cinema showing a movie of the area and the history of Dan O'Hara and his family who were evicted from the cottage and forced to immigrate to America like so many other Irish families at that time!
Martin and his wife were very friendly and welcoming and keen to share the history of the area.
The heritage centre is free to all guests staying in the B&B.
The breakfast was great ... freshly baked home made breads with your traditional irish and real coffee ( none of that granulated muck !).
The rooms were comfortable, free internet. My only complaint was the volume had been permanently set low on the TV ( for the consideration of other guests) but Im as deaf as a post and couldn't hear it at all!
If you want a real taste of Irish history and culture then stay here!!!
