Disappointing noisy stay!

I stayed one night with my husband, as we were going to the Aviva Stadium, for Michael Buble concert. The Radisson would not have been our first choice, except all hotels closer to the Stadium were booked out.(Even though we booked four months in advance!)Taxi rides from the hotel to the Aviva were a bit expensive...15Euro each way. There were two weddings going on, but it wasn't a problem. We had to eat in the bar, as the restaurant didn't open early enough, and we were disappointed with the choices available. Soup, Sandwiches and salads. It was also very expensive for what we got. We found the service slow...and our order was forgotten. We had to remind them...not good! The grounds are fantastic and we liked the Orangerie Bar. Our room was fine, nothing special, overlooking some houses. We didn't mind, as we were only there for the concert. One minor irration, the bulb was blown in one of the bedside lamps. I would have expected checks like that to be covered with Housekeeping, in a 5 star hotel!? The bath was shallow...so if you like a deep bath, don't bother. We loved the huge comfortable bed. The worst bit was the noise!! Our room had a connecting door to another room. Again we didn't think much of it....until we went to bed! We could hear next door's TV until 3.30am!! The walls are paper thin...or was it the connecting room thing?? Anyway, we could hear all conversations and noise from our neighbours. Never again! The room was comfortable, but due to the noise, I could only give it a 2. We didn't have breakfast. As it wasn't included in our rate, we didn't want to pay the crazy price. Check out at the desk was slow. We didn't complain, as it was only for the one night. But due to the lack of sleep, we would never stay again! The lack of sleep seemed to colour everything, for my stay. There are definately better hotels with better value around Dublin. By the way the concert was brilliant :)

Not quite 5 stars.

We booked three nights here as part of our honeymoon. It was the only place we had booked for three nights and we were looking forward to three nights in the same place. Our first night they told us they overbooked and put us in another hotel 20 minutes away. The compensation they offered was a free breakfast which we did not want. Major inconvenience in our trip, almost ruined our stay in Dublin and definitely ruined our saturday plans. We saw the concierge once and then never again the entire weekend. No bell hop which I thought odd at a 5 star. Food was ok, not great, but only had one meal here.

Terrific Scenery...wonderful grounds...

Did the city tours...clean and friendly city. Wanted to spend more time in the coutryside but time limited. This hotel is a bit out of the city center so if you want to be where it's happening..this one isn't for you...try the Temple Bar area for that.

Nice

We very much enjoyed our stay here, the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. We especially like the fact that the kids could run around the gardens in the back - very enjoyable. My only quibble is that the hotel is set back from the road a good bit, so that getting all our luggage out to the bus on our departure took a bit of doing. It would have been nice for the hotel to provide some kind of assistance for getting out there.

St. Helen's First Class

We attended a conference held at the DRS (Dublin Royal Society) Conference Center and rather than book a hotel close to the center, we choose the St. Helen's because of the wonderful rates and description. Rooms were beautiful and grounds, gardens absolutely lovely. No disappointment there. Taxi fares added up, though, and we eventually began using the bus. If you're visiting Dublin for the first time, I'd recommend a few days in town and a few days at St. Helen. It's on the South side of town on the way to Wicklow...only about an hour away with many places to hike, visit, etc. Would return to St. Helen in a heartbeat. PS: Restaurant food was wonderful for dinner. They charged my husband $3.50 for a small cup of coffee. Would recommend that a hotel of this level provide coffee/tea for guests and shuttle service to city. Would greatly add to its appeal for tourists.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Short walk to bus stop. Learn the routes and take advantage of the bus system. It'll take you right into town. Might want to get a 24-hour hop-on-hop-off pass that takes you around the city to the major tourist sites to get your bearings. You can jump off, take a tour of Guinness for example, and hop back on the next bus to your next location. You can do this as much as you want for 24-hours. Visit the Tourist Center in town for tour information (bus), railway tours, etc.

Fantastic hotel. Lovely hotel. A +

Lovely hotel. Very clean room. Helpful staff. Very "grand" hotel. We were there just for the weekend and unfortunately did not get to use any of the available amenities. The room was very nice and all the areas we saw were very nice and clean. Beautiful approach to the hotel and beatiful grounds. The only slight negative is the hotel distance to the centre of Dublin but there are regular buses across the road straight to the centre of Dublin and back which takes about 20 minutes each way (Cheaper) or get a cab. Apart from that, we're very glad to have stayed at the hotel and would go there again.

Excellent base before an exam!

Stayed at the hotel on the night before my son took the HPAT test at University College. I chose the hotel because of its proximity to the exam centre but although I was anticipating something good from the 5 star rating, my expectations were exceeded by the quality of the room, the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere and character of the hotel itself.

Romantic Getaway

Firstly, it is very easy to find the hotel which is great & the grounds are amazing. Perfect for a romantic weekend away!! It was a bit far out from the city which was fine for us but very near Dundrum shopping centre. I found some of the staff on reception not very welcoming however which was disappointing as we were very impressed otherwise. There was little choice on the bar menu (perhaps it was the time of day that we wanted to eat). The room was lovely- very comfortable bed & everything you could want was there! I would stay here again & would recommend it to a friend!
