Perfect location

The hotel itself is allright, not many fancy amenities but comfortable enough. Bathroom was ok, room good, breakfast (not included) fine. But the location was great. Close to all main tourist attractions and shopping area. it was very easy to walk anywhere from the hotel. And the bus to/from airport had a stop near the hotel.

Excellent Dublin City Centre Hotel

The Irish economy isbad shape and it sort of shows in the condition of O'Callaghan's. It's just a bit shabby around the edges. But otherwise a great place to stay. You can walk everywhere. This was my third stay at O'Callaghan's and it wont be my last!

Great location, nice room

Excellent location within walking distance to the center of Dublin, theatres, shopping street. Very helpful and courteous staff. There is a decent breakfast but, as with most hotels, it's overpriced. If you cant stand the heat in the greenhouse-style dining room, there is an option in the back. Note that they require pre-approval of 50 euros *per night* on your credit card -- even when the room is pre-paid. That seems excessive, considering there's no minibar in the room. Well-furnished, clean, all amenities including teakettle and cups. I would definitely stay there again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Breakfast at Bewley's on Grafton street is an excellent (and less expensive) alternative to the hotel breakfast.

Great price. Excellent location.

Excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Would have given it 5 stars but my phone in the room was broken and despite efforts, was not able to be fixed. Kudos to young man who realized I needed a wake up call and prompted the TV to wake me and also came up to knock on my door to remind me. Great service. Upon checkout on Monday morning, reception clerk was not efficient and delayed departure. Tried to check out the night before but the same clerk did not want that. Taxi that the hotel ordered was not metered and charged me 39 euros vs. metered taxi from the airport to hotel charged 24 euros. Customers beware.

Nice hotel, great location.

The O'Callaghan Stephens Green is a good hotel, not great. The real draw is the location. It is ideally situated to explore much of Dublin by walking, including Grafton Street, Trinity College, and Stephens Green itself. The Guinness Storehouse is even within range for the more spry traveler. Parking can get expensive, though; not that you need a car in the city.

Don't rent a car for a stay in Dublin if you don't mind walking or taking public transit or taxis.

Very nice

Great Hotel overall. The employees were helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for walking to all kinds of shops and places to eat. The room was a bit of a pain in that the bed had massive lumps protruding horizontally in the center that caused knee pain from hyperextension. The other problem is the aluminum flashing on the lower window ledge. It rains all the time in Dublin so it baffles me why a hotel would essentially put a drum at the edge of the window. When rain hit this aluminum it was shockingly loud. I remember reading another review about this issue before booking thinking that he/she was just some nut that needed to complain about something but I stand corrected. Would I choose this hotel again? Yes. I would just need to bring a fan to provide white noise. The AC/Heater in the room did not have a separate fan control and was far too quiet to help drown out the noise anyway. The hardware and decoration in the room was top-notch. The bed was a King which was nice. The clock is integrated into the TV which was a bit of a pain at first but once we figured out the alarm control it worked better than anything I have used before.

nice

I was glad that we hadn't brought our children. We had to walk 3-4 city blocks with our luggage from the carpark. Not only that but we had to drag our stuff through a mall to the street. I didn't find the parking to be convenient. When we tried to pull the car in front of the hotel taxi's were parked in front of the hotel. We have 2 young children and this would have been a problem if they had been traveling with us.

The shower/tub only has a half screen and water would always run on the floor so it made the shower less relaxing always fighting to stay close to the wall to avoid splashing water. The room was clean and service was good. Unfortunately, you pay extra for internet (not like in the US). Breakfast buffet is 11euro on weekdays and 14 on weekend. Great walking distance to the action. No parking on premises.

Cafe Bliss on the alley behind the hotel is great food and very affordable. It is a small place so could be crowded.
