Hotel address: At Merrion Square, Dublin, Ireland 2
Dublin.
Dublin International Airport.
Dublin is ultimately a vibrant city of contrasts and leaves an indelible memory in the minds of many visitors. The O'Callaghan Davenport Hotel is located in Dublin City's Georgian Merrion Square, ideal for Dublin shopping as it is within strolling distance of the renowned Grafton Street area.
This charming Dublin restaurant is named after a famous architect, Sir Charles Lanyon. Like the historic façade of this Dublin hotel, Lanyons exudes an old world, traditional charm. This is a very stylish restaurant, serving top class international cuisine. A real favourite among local Dubliners.
Presidents Bar is a very popular choice to relax and enjoy a drink from the bar or a snack from bar menu available all day.

Excellent value
Buckmulligan Dec 22, 2009
Of my four visits to Dublin, this was clearly the best hotel I've stayed at by far. As indicated, this is an excellent ... location, very near the toney part of town. The only downside was noise from the bar across the street, though it was winter and we were on the fourth floor so it was not a major problem, in summer and a lower floor could be probelmatic for those turning in before midnight.

All in all, a very pleasant stay.
Larry G Dec 2, 2009
We chose this hotel for it's location and reasonable price, but ended up being very happy with it overall. While clearly an ... older hotel, it's very well maintained and still has an air of class and elegance. Our room was small (typical for Europe) but well appointed and quite clean. The staff was polite and helpful. The location is great, close to bus & train transport, and there always seemed to be at least one taxi waiting out front. It's also within easy walking distance of many Dublin attractions, including Trinity College and Temple Bar. One minor letdown was the business center...a small room at the end of the hall with a single antiquated computer and printer. We attempted to use the computer to check email, but got all kinds of virus popups and warnings. No way we were trusting our passwords (let alone CC numbers!) to that thing. We quite enjoyed our stay, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The O'Callaghan to others.

Street signs in Ireland are hard to find or simply not there. When in Dublin, look on the sides of buildings at the street corner and farther out in the country at major cross streets there is usually a big post with half a dozen road and direction signs.

Great Location - Good Value
Non-Irish Scott Sep 15, 2009
The Davenport is in a great location, near Grafton Street, Temple Bar and St. Stephen's Green but far enough to be quiet. ... Hotel room was large by European standards, basically the size of a US hotel room. Staff was helpful enough. Only negative was that the restaurant service was horribly slow, but we only ate there once.

Novel but not worth the price. . .
Traveling_Chica123 Aug 24, 2009
It has a pretty good location right in the center of Dublin, only a couple blocks away from Trinity college and St Stephen's ... Green. The fee for using the internet is a little pricey, about $18 per day, but the room I had came with an American outlet, so if you forgot your power converter, you are covered. If you are expecting something similar to stays in American hotels, look elsewhere, it is definitely not an Americanized hotel.

THIS was our first trip. . I put this together for us..THE HOTEL WAS FANTASTIC...CENTRALLY LOCATED TO ALL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS ... VIA HOP ON HOP OFF OR WALKING TOURS....THE SHOPPES ON NASSAU ST WERE PERFECT AND THE DISCOUNT AFFORDED BY THE DUBLIN PASS AND VAT TAX ON LARGE PURCHASES AFORRDED ME MANY DISCOUNTS SHOPPING THE HOTEL WAS THE BEST. MY ONLY COMPARISON IS TO THE CLARENCE HOTEL WHERE MY WIFE AND I ATTENDED A HIGH TEA..WHILE THE CLARENCE IS ALSO CONSIDERED A LUXURY HOTEL IT DOES NOT COMPARE TO THE DAVENPORT IN BEAUTY OR CLOSENESS TO WALKING TO GRAFTON ST..ST STEPENS SQ..GAIETY THEATER..TRINITY COLLEGE...NATIONAL MUSEUM AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS. THE SERVICE PROVIDED BY MY HOTEL IN BOOKING AN EXTRA SIDE TRIP TO THE RING OF KERRY WAS EFFICIENT. I WOULD ONLY ADD ONE THING THE HOTEL SHOULD ADVISE THEIR GUESTS THAT A DART STATION IS CLOSE BY AT PEARSE ST AND THAT THE FARMERS MARKET AT HOATH IS AVAILABLE ON SUNDAYS AND FOR 8 40 EURO FOR TWO PEOPLE IS WELL WORTH THE 30 MIN. TRIP OUT AND BACK..MY THANKS TO MARTIN,JOHN,JENNIFER AND ESPECIALLY TO GARETH FOR MAKING MY STAY EXTREMELY WONDERFUL..TO MY FRIENDLY CAB DRIVERS TOM MAGUIRE,BRIAN KELLY,JOHN HARRISON,DAVE O CONNELL,SHANE MURRAY,THOMAS CAFFERTY THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS...ONE LAST THING WHILE IN DUBLIN IF AnYONE HAS THE OPPURTUNITY AND YOU LIKE JAZZ PLEASE TAKE TIME TO VISIT JJ SYMTHES CLUB AND SAY HIGH TO EAMON FOR ME....JOHN HEALEY

Good Location-but smoky hotel!
Vacationista Aug 4, 2009
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. However the hotel hallways and rooms smell of smoke even in the non-smoking ... areas. The hotel offered free internet (lifesaver) and it is close to pubs, restaruants, shopping, bus lines, and a cute little park to walk or exercise at. Overall it is a pretty good hotel- especially if you are only there to sleep.
Traveler type: Friends
Make sure you check out Temple bar area but stick to the pubs in other areas- they are just as fun and much cheaper. Also take a day trip to Belfast, Londonderry, and the rope bridge (paddywagon trip)--- skip the trip to Wicklow- its not that thrilling.

Terrific hotel choice for Dublin
Dabs Jul 25, 2009
The Davenport was a perfect place for me to stay, it was far enough away from the Temple Bar madness but close enough to ... transportation and sights that I could walk most places or get there easily with transport connections. The room was comfortable and spacious, quiet at night. I was able to check in early and the staff was helpful with my questions about getting around. There was even free internet access, not something you see a lot in hotels these days.

If you take the Air Coach from the airport and are pressed for time on the way back, walk to the Suffolk Street or Dawson Street stops and save yourself 20+ minutes as the bus is still dropping off passengers at the Merrion Square stop

Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They were even able to check me into my room when I arrived at 11am, even though ... the normal check-in isn't until 2. Very clean, quiet, and had every amenity I needed. Rooms were very spacious. They wanted to charge 12euro/day for internet access, but it's free from their lobby or business center computers so I just used that. Only other downside was how expensive the hotel restaurant was; even the breakfast buffet was 17euro so I ate elsewhere. Other than that, not a single complaint. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

A good value in a great city.
Rich C May 31, 2009
While a little off the beaten path, the hotel is a lovely property with an extremely friendly staff. We had requested early ... check in for our 11 am arrival. Since we had 2 rooms I called to say that check in to one room on arrival was fine. We were checked in to both rooms and were able to rest up for a few hours after our overnight flight which permitted us to enjoy a late afternoon and evening out and about. Free internet in the lobby. Food is okay, but we found that to be the case in most places. I think it is a difference of cuisine rather than quality. The beds are great ! It is not way out of the way, but a cab ride from the heart of things. I can say that the interaction with the Dublin cabbies was an absolute pleasure and made the additional cost all the more tolerable. We had 6 or 7 seven different drivers and each provided insight into the city and country in a wonderfully entertaining and friendly style.

Good, tasty and reasonably priced meals can be found at the cafe in Kilkenny Store on Nassau Street and the Food Hall and Rooftop Restaurant in Marks and Spencer on Grafton Street. Note that on weekends and holidays, eateries seem to open much later or not at all. We ended up eating breakfast at McDonalds on Grafton Street on the Bank Holiday, because it was the only place open early enough for us to get breakfast before we headed to the airport.
