Reliable as usual

The Mespil is blessed with a good location on a lovely stretch of the Grand Canal, near Baggot St Bridge. In the Spring sunshine with the trees coming into leaf and the Thursday food stalls at the lock gate it was one of the best places to be in Dublin. As usual, the hotel is reliable and reassuring. Staff are friendly, professional and helpful. Our room was spotless and comfortable. Bathroom was gleaming, but on the top floor the shower pressure was weak. We could have done with another day but we will be back.

Convenient location

The Mespil was conveniently located; Dublin city centre was a short walk away. The accommodation was comfortable but a little tired. No wardrobe or drawer space and no safe in the room. Parking was a real problem; there were spaces but not enough. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The Mespil, whilst it is a pleasant place to stay, would not be our first choice in the future.

Best thing is location

It's a basic city hotel. Cups not washed on second day, tissues box not refilled, shower really lacking in power.Little tatty around the edges. Rooms really quiet - although there is traffic noise and no aircon so you can't shut the windows. Beds comfy. Best thing is location - ten mins walk to Grafton Street but excellent local facilities and fab pubs and restaurants mean you can escape the centre of Dublin once you've had enough of the noise and bustle and revellers. Excellent food nearby - breakfast in Searsons pub and fab food in Kashk restaurant.

Nice holiday but...

We can't fault the hotel, it was lovely and it was an easy walk to the centre of Dublin. The only complaint was that there was no breakfast included in the price. I know that we got a deal on the room price but nowhere did it say that it was room only, so you assume a breakfast was included. That was embarrassing, which is why I can't give five stars. The breakfast (or no-breakfast in this case) should have been made clear.

Very clean, good location

The Mespil Hotel was centrally located within walking distance to museums and parks. It was a little further walk to the central part of Dublin. The front desk people were very accommodating, the breakfast very nice, and the rooms clean and adequate. A bus stops every morning in front of the hotel to take people to the Hop Off and On bus tour. Highly recommend taking it. We enjoyed the Guinness and Jameson whiskey tours and also the archaelogical museum. It was about a half mile walk to the Dart (the speed train) from the Mespil. We took a 20 minute train ride south to Dalkey, a quaint town along the coast which has a lovely castle and church.

Enjoyed O'Neills, Ryans, and the Brazen Head Pubs. The Brazen Head is the oldest pub in Dublin. You can get to all these pubs on the Hop On and Off bus tour.

Awesome Quality, Tremendous Value

Fantastic modern Hotel on the south end of the city. The neighborhood is safe and very clean, there is a Starbucks right next door and a fantastic Italian restaurant around the corner. A 10 to 15 minute walk to the center of Dublin and most tourist areas. The Mespil is located close to major highways if driving around Ireland is on your agenda. My wife and I went to see a concert at RDS Arena which was about a 10 minute walk through a great neighborhood - The Mespil is very clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, I would stay here again. Free parking if you can get into the lot, otherwise there is easy to find street parking nearby.

STAY HERE

We loved this hotel, from check in to check out, everything was great. We arrived early (5am) on a cold, rainy Dublin morning and the staff was super friendly about giving us our room. (Granted it was the off season, but still nice) The hotel itself is very well kept and the rooms are nice sized and very clean. We liked the fact that we could walk to Temple bar area or Stephens green but then return to our quieter area at night. Not that the area is dead. There are some great pubs and coffee spots within a block. i only wish we could go back in the summer to take a stroll along the canal right in front of the hotel. If you need a budget friendly hotel in Dublin, you can't beat this spot.
