Cool setting, but not very romantic

Lectra83 Nov 23, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We were there for our honeymoon, and while we couldn't have afforded anything nearly as nice in central Dublin, be aware the ... a bus in necessary to get anywhere. It was clean, well run, and the concierge was very helpful, but it wasn't exactly a romantic atmosphere. The restauants were a little overpriced too, I would have killed for a place to just get a bagel in the morning.

Beatiful hotel in great location

I stayed at this hotel with my friend and we were really impressed from beginning to end. The hotel staff were very ... efficient in our needs during our stay and always had a cab ready for us in the morning when asked. There's a bus right outside the hotel that takes you to the city center for $1.60 euro or $1.80 euro which was very very convenient. Knights Bar was very fun as well with good food and a great bar staff. I would def stay at this hotel again!

I Can See A Rainbow

Billy Bang Bang Aug 26, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My wife didn't believe we got the room for $81 per night. While it's a 3 mile trek to get into "town" we weren't put off by ... that because we knew we got a good deal, even if we cabbed it. Some took the bus but since our time was limited we got downtown in less than 10 minutes by car. The cabbies we met were great to talk to besides. Back to Clontarf, in short, it's a great place to stay!!

If you enjoy history, then Dublin will do it for you. Seek and ye shall find it. We even had a giant rainbow do a cameo for my wife and I.(over Clontarf Castle!) You don't have to believe this but we saw a double rainbow to boot. Now if that's not poetically stunning, my shamrock was certainly a glowing green.

Really liked this hotel. The restaurant food was great, the service was NOT great (but that seemed to be pretty typical in ... Dublin, in general), the times the restaurants were open was a little odd, but not too inconvenient. The rooms were comfy, clean, and a good size. We had no view, which was disappointing. Some of the rooms have a view of the sea. I'd recommend asking for that. The location is a ten minute walk to a fifteen minute bus ride to downtown Dublin, easy. The staff will tell you to take taxi's everywhere, but the buses and the dart are close, easy, and cheap. Enjoy!

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Taxi's are expensive. Definitely be adventurous and use the buses (have different change handy, the driver's will tell you how much, but don't give change) and the dart (easy and very inexpensive for day trips).

Shopping tip, Short Walk

City Center in Dublin has everything you could imagine. Wonderful shops, restaurants and pubs. Lots of history to explore and very friendly people. It's a short walk from the Castle to the bus which comes every 15 minutes.

Money savers tip

Take the bus or cabs. If you are not comfortable driving on the left don't do it in the center of Dublin.

Money savers tip

If you want to go into Dublin and time isn't a factor, take the bus that stops in front of the hotel. It takes about 3 times as long to get to the city as a taxi, but it's a lot cheaper and you get to see more of the outskirts of the city.
