Dining

The Vat House
The VAT house Bar of Temple Bar is a traditional Irish Pub, which gets its name from the vat house in the Guinness Brewery, St. James Gate Dublin. During the final stage of the brewing process Guinness is stored in large copper vats and left to mature, thereby allowing the flavour to develop.

On the edge of Temple Bar

The location was perfect for walking all of Dublin and hanging out in Temple Bar. Do not stay here if you require quiet to sleep. Band played until 1.

Great location, could've been a bit better

The location of this hotel was fabulous! Right in the heart of Temple Bar! There's a club and a bar downstairs, so I wouldn't recommend staying there (at least on the first floor) on the weekend...Music was blaring until about 2 am on a Saturday night when I stayed there. Otherwise, the hotel was great for the price and location.

Lovely hotel! Great location for the nightlife

We arrived here 8am on a Sunday morning, although the other people had not checked out yet the hotel kindly stored our luggage and the room was ready for 10am. On entering the room it smelt fresh and a smell of bleach was in the air, the room was quite small (twin) but it was ok for me and my mum, went to inspect the bathroom and seemed clean on first look. Later on in the day we went back for a shower and to freshen up and let's say the bath was quite 'greasy', and toothpaste marks over the sink. So anyway we washed the sink down and had a stip wash and I was styling my mums hair with a blow dryer brush and it set the fire alarms off quite easily (so remember to keep the windows open as they are very sensitive) with this the hotel staff came up and we showed them the bath and they said it was cleaning product they use, I certainly don't know of any cleaning product that leaves a greasy residue....anyway we went out and the next day bought our own cleaning products and the bath came up lovely! Also the can ace sheets are a sky blue colour and the bottom of the sheets were filthy but for the value of the hotel I couldn't complain! Apart from this the staff are generally fantastic and the location is great! The bar downstairs 'VAT bar' we never heard a sound from even with our window open. The only thing I would say to the hotel is not to keep the skip in front of the hotel because when ur chucking rubbish away at 5.10am it sends a right clatter through the road! Would come again for a budget hotel! We didn't have breakfast here so I cannot comet but I would defo recommend this hotel for couples and party goers.

NEVER AGAIN ah me back

Worst Bed I've ever slept in. Room dirty, previous guests bag of rubbish left in room.

This is one hotel I will definately not be returning to. The policy of taking a €50 deposit, (even though we paid in full before arriving) is ridiculous. My wife arrived a number of hours before me, she didn't have the €50 on her so they insisted on photocopying the front and back of her two debit cards. This resulted in her having to cancel both cards over fear of theft, at a cost of €16. The room was not cleaned properly, there was a bag of rubbish from the previous guests still in the room. Workers in the central bank could see directly into the room. The bed was shocking, it was lumpy and uneven and caused me to wake at 5am and not be able to get back to sleep.

The location is awesome, but...

...the noise! I thought I could tolerate it, even after reading other reviews prior to booking. Even on the 4th floor, it was as if the loud music and clamor was in the same room. One night, the smoke alarms kept going off. At least five times that I remember until about 3 or 4 am. They claim that they had to warn the individual smoking in their hotel at least two times before asking them to leave the hotel, but that doesn't explain why it alarmed at least five times that I can remember. The hotel is old and the decor and fixtures could use some major improvements. It's kept clean though and we were provided clean towels daily, as well as fix our beds. Would I stay here? Yeah, if I don't plan to get even 1 minute of sleep, sure. The staff was okay and the breakfast they serve is nothing special (not included with the room).

Great overall

This hotel is in the heart of Templebar and within walking distance of majority of attractions. Driving to the hotel was a bit of a nightmare with the one way systems but though the hotel doesn't have parking, it does provide discounted parking at a nearby car park. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Dining tip: In Hotel

We shopped around for breakfast at nearby restaurants but it was roughly the same price or dearer so we decided to try the hotel's breakfast bar. It was a buffet breakfast - what a good decision!
