Family Vacation
This hotel is situated at the corner of an intersection, making it difficult to get to, especially if you don't know the city. A 'Family room' consisted of a small double, a single and a pull out couch! Only one pillow was provided for each bed. Each evening I had to order two sets of extra towels as only the minimum were provided, even though they knew we had four adults in the room. The hair dryer wouldn't work, and with three women staying was a nightmare, each time I called the front desk "They said they were fully booked and couldn't find a replacement!" Last morning when we were checking out a replacement was provided...However NO hot water was available!! again we were informed by the front desk "That maintenance didn't come into until after we checked out!" No option to provided use with a room that did have hot water Needless to say we were very unhappy with our stay, and were the 4-star rating came from is anybodys guest, maybe on a good day 2 might be more approprate

Long walk from hotel
Don't try and drive in this city, the streets signs are never in a good location to read, and when you can, they are faded! Taxi fares are about 12 euros each way to any shopping or entertainment areas

Real value is in the eye of the Hotelier
First problem started when we tried to check in at 1.10pm we were told that it would cost us €10 euro extra if we wanted to book in before 2o'c. [...] When we went to bed we couldn't get to sleep because of the noise coming from the adjoining rooms. When we rang reception to complain there was no answer. In the morning when I went to have a shower there was no hot water. I rang reception and was told that there was frozen pipes and that was why there was no hot water. But they would offer us some compensation when we came to check out. On the way down in the lift we asked other guests if they had hot water and they said they had. We still did not get an adequate explanation from receptionist and was referred to the duty manager. When he arrived in the hotel I said to him that we had spoken to other guests who said that they had hot water in their rooms. This he was not able to explain. Eventually I said that I wanted a full refund which he agreed to.I just paid the overnight parking charge of €10.50 and when I came out to my car I discovered it was covered in bird droppings from over hanging trees. My experience of staying in the Ballsbridge Inn was not a pleasent one.

Waste of money
HOT!! Windows only vertically tilted open 1/2". Just enough to let the smoke from the chimneys in our room. Mattress was ancient and pillows were completely flat. We had to stuff our bath towels under them just to sleep. If any drawer/doors on the furniture were opened, it was horrible! Smelled so moldy and musty....trees outside our window, that barely opened, smelled of cat urine! Gets even better....woke up the next morning with a stiff neck and back only to find a letter from Management that had been slipped under our door. Letter informed us there would be NO hot water. We could call down to the front desk and be put on the waiting list for rooms in the "tower" that had hot water. Went to iron my shirt for our trip home only to find there wasn't one. Charged us €10.50 just to park our rental car in their lot overnight and €9.00/day for WiFi access. Good thing this was our last night in Ireland. Had our other six hotels been this wretched, I would have turned around and gone home.

Not Ballsbridge Inn anymore
The hotel is now under new management and is called D4 Hotel - a little confusing since it is still advertised as Ballsbridge Inn Hotel. The room was very basic and not very clean. The staff were Ok, but not super attentive. There are no alarm clock in the room so you have to rely on a wake up call which came late. The over all look of the hotel was run down and dirty.

Disappointment in Dublin
Don't be fouled by the photos
We booked at the D4 in Dublin because the photos online showed a modern hotel with public transport into the city. When we arrived, there were added fees for everything, parking and Wifi (10 minutes for 3 euro) and you could tell that at one point it had been a nice hotel, but that management had let the facade age badly. We asked for a wake up call and woke up with a male member of staff IN our room. When I asked him what he was doing he said it was our wakeup call!!! The rooms were clean, but the hotel did not live up to the photos I had seen online and that matched with poor, rude service and undisclosed service fees left us frustrated and angry.

There was a knock off Chipotle two blocks from the hotel. It was a nice refreshing and cheap meal that made us feel more at home. We have been traveling for a while so it was a nice change from the everyday. If you are looking for good Irish food, The Shack, in temple bar has an early bird 3 course meal for 15 Euros which in that area is a bargin, but you must book a table ahead of time.

Hotel Closed!!!
My reservation for D4 Ballsbridge Inn Hotel was made a couple weeks in advance. My friend made her reservation more than a month in advance and when we arrived, we were met at the door and advised the hotel was "closed for remodeling" and our reservations had been switched to D4 Berkeley--"just go around the back of this hotel, across the parking lot, through a wrought iron fence...." I truly thought the man was joking! When I found the front desk of the Berkeley, they insisted that it was "the same hotel" and therefore didn't feel the need to notify guests of the switch. They also mentioned that the Berkeley is a 5Star hotel and the D4 Inn was a 4Star--I assume they thought we should be grateful for the 'upgrade'....The Berkeley may have been a 5Star hotel a few years ago, but it needs some serious renovations to qualify for that now! Not only was the D4 Inn closed, but its restaurant was closed, its pub was closed and the D4 Store was closed leaving the Berkeley with one restaurant. The Air Coach stop and the city bus stop is right outside the door of the D4 Inn and the RDS, (where we were attending the needlework show), is a short walk or a quick bus ride down the street. The Berkeley was just that much further to everything and we were disappointed with the switch and the fact that we were not notified of the switch. The Berkeley breakfast was great and the hotel staff was wonderful, but everyone had been instructed to say "this is the same hotel" (i.e. D4) and the "other building was closed for remodeling" turns out, the other hotel, pub, D4 Store had been FLOODED with the recent storm that had raged through Dublin a few weeks earlier! now why couldn't they have said that and why couldn't they have notified their guests?? I would have been perfectly happy with the switch if I had known about it in advance, but to find out after an eight-hour flight, on top of jet lag, it was more than a little aggravating!! and they charged for WiFi, which was very inconvenient :)

D4 Ballsbridge Inn
Overall it is a good hotel. Its in a perfect location If your attending a show or function in the RDS. The hotel itself is clean and spacious. The room i was in could do with a fresh coat of paint and the curtains could do with a wash. The waste bin in the bathroom could do with being replaced. The TV did not work.

Ballsbridge Hotel
Traveling internationally we had baggage to match but nobody came to the kerbside to assist out unloading and entrance into the lobby, after checking in nobody offered nor was there anyone available to assist in accessing our room. Room No. 322 overlooked a mess of AHU's (air handling units and other debris) total eyesore and yet the Hotel appeared <10% occupied i.e., simple matter to have provided us a room with a view? Bathroom had a wall mounted dryer but head and flexible hose were missing (torn off long time ago) Room dryer was installed to prevent stealing same rather than designed for personal use, how come? The plug had been stripped from cord and 1/4" dia. hole bored thru back of desk then plug refitted so you could not unplug/steal same; that meant cord length was lost winding it in and under the desk so end result was one of getting down on your knees to operate the hair dryer while the mirror is 3' above and 3' to the other side so it's an absolute NONO! TV was say 16" vintage 1875, that's a typo I meant 1975 but you get the sense of it this Hotel is tired, it needs a facelift, tummy tuck et al. Stay there again? NO nice people but it's not a 3 star Hotel and was a major disappointment, made the more so as they would refund the last 2 of a planned 5 nite stay even though we gave proper notice. Annie
