Visitor Beware!
I stayed at the Best Western Academy Plaza Hotel on two separate occassions in one week. For both nights, I booked standard accommodations with two twin beds. The first night the accommodations were comfortable. However, the second time I stayed, I did not check in until 9:00pm. It became evident that the hotel provides rooms on a first come, first-served basis. I was provided with room 001. BEWARE! Do not accept this room, find another hotel! The room is in the basement. The two twin beds make it nearly impossible to move about the room. There is no telephone or tea/coffeemaking amenities. If it's cold, there's no obvious source of heat, just a wall-mounted air-conditioner. Additionally, Room 001 is located just next to the staff rooms. Everytime someone enters or leaves that room, you can hear and feel the door slam. If there are people in the staff rooms, you can even overhear there conversations. I stayed on a Saturday night and there is a nightclub next door. My father and I had a terrible time sleeping with the loud reverberations of the bass from the nightclub. When we went up to the front desk to complain, the staff were rather unhelpful, did not seem to care. The hotel was booked except for one room which was, according to the reception, worse than Room 001. As a result, we were offered a free breakfast for the next morning. When we arrived, the greeter asked for our room number, shrugged, and commented that we must not have slept well. The entire staff knows how terrible Room 001 is, but generally do not care. I urge travelers to beware. Room 001 is the dungeon of the Best Wester Academy Plaza. Do not accept this room (or any other in the basement). But if you are lucky, you will stay in one of the upper floors.

Short walk from hotel
Hotel is conveniently located in front of Dublin's Airlink bus to and from the airport. Also, Dublin Tours Hop-On Hop-Off Tours pick up directly in front of the hotel. This hotel is definitely a great location for getting around Dublin.

Good location in Dublin
The hotel was conveniently located for walking around Dublin. Our room, however, was above an outdoor bar that was very noisy until late at night. Otherwise, the hotel was a good experience for us.

Nice location
The hotel was near the center of the city. You could easily walk around the heart of Dublin. We did request a non-smoking room and were not given one. Other than that, it was a decent place to stay.

Best Western Dublin
We toured Dublin and surrounding area. The hotel is about 8 blocks from Temple Bar (lots of restaurants and pubs), Trinity College and Grafton Street (shopping and tourist sites) which are across the river Liffey. Not a bad walk but something to keep in mind. O'Connell street is just steps away (a central hub with movie theatre, street markets, department stores, but not a specifically "tourist" area). The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. European rooms are small and these rooms were typical Euro size, but nicely furnished. Our room was VERY quiet, a nice feature. Breakfast is served each morning in the restaurant and they offer a 10Euro per day option when checking in--a good value. I think this hotel is a good value and a good selection by Orbitz.

One of the Best Deals in Dublin
Located just off O'Connell Street in city centre, this hotel was just a 30 minute trip from the airport on the AirCoach which dropped us off less than half-a-block from the hotel. The hotel was in a quiet and safe area, and within walking distance of most of the major attractions and shopping in Dublin. It was also just across the street from the Hop-on-Hop-Off bus service. The people at the desk were very helpful, and the hotel was the perfect place for us to spend a few days in Dublin before leaving for Galway by train (the LUAS tram to Heuston Station is nearby), and to spend the last night before we left Ireland, after returning to Dublin from Cork by train. It will definitely be on our list of places to stay when we return.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
There's a new Tesco grocery store nearby that can be a great place to pickup a few things for a picnic lunch or continental breakfast. And, with as expensive as Dublin is these days, it's good to save a few euros/dollars on meals whenever possible.

Great experience
It was a very nice experience. Wonderful, helpful staff. Very clean and tidy. We were a bit disappointed that there was no refrigerator in the room , which I believe was advertised. Also, it was rather noisy until quite early each morning due to a pub in the courtyard outside our window, which was not advertised.

Hotel
The hotel was in a great location. The bus from the airport stopped on OConnell Street right on the corner of Findlater St. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Best of all was when we arrived very early in the morning we were able to check in because the room was available. that was a lifesaver as we traveled from the US and were very tired.
