Great for just me!
Had a great time. The staff was excellent and very friendly. I didn't have a toothbrush, told the lady at the front desk. She had one sent right up for free. Location was great. Right near downtown and all the sights. Rooms were a bit tiny, but that's Europe.

Great location with clean, comfortable room
This hotel is in a great location, with hop on hop off bus across the street and airport bus around the corner. The room, although small, was very clean and beds were the most comfortable I've experienced in Europe. Reception staff were amazing, had my room ready when I arrived at 9:15 a.m. and even offered an upgrade from single to double! As others have mentioned, you would be best to skip the breakfast at hotel and try one of the many other options in this great city. Thank you to the Academy Plaza staff for a pleasant stay!

Daily City Excursion Perfect Central Location
Ideal for traveler determined to see Dublin by foot or readily accessible transportation modes-- bus/taxi/tram. Very supportive, accommodating staff vis a vis requests for extras (towels; adaptor), services (reservations; wake-up call; room maintenance; general info; early non-conforming check-in time; porter). Security is excellent. On-site amenities are convenient: restaurant was adequate; did not use salon or fitness room. Terrific nearby attractions-- museums (Writer's), art collections (Hugh Lane), shopping, casual and fine dining plus easy access to further away destinations. Room was small but efficiently storaged, well equipped with a large modern and stylishly finished bathroom. Minor design flaws included too narrow and too high (raised) tubs, otherwise very nice. Hair dryers a bit archaic, but better than none! In-room tea service/hot kettle awesome! Loud door slamming at any odd and very late hour was a bit off putting-- might doorstops solve this? Nice place-- might stay again and would recommend to friends.

Excellant Location!
This hotel is located right off of Upper O'Connell Street. You are within walking distance to most major Dublin attractions, including Temple Bar, Trinity College, Jameson Distillary, major shopping streets, and the Guinness Storehouse. Don't waste your money eating at the hotel. On and just off of O'Connell are a number of low cost restaurants and grocery stores to get your meals for cheap. I was able to eat all three meals and snacks for about 20 to 25 euro (or less) per day I was there. The hotel staff are wonderful. All were very welcoming and friendly. Anything I needed was addressed ASAP. My only real issue was that the rooms are SMALL. However, this is not uncommon for a Dublin hotel. I have stayed at two others in Dublin and this was comparable to those.. maybe a wee bit smaller, but this time it was just a single bed while the others had two beds in them... That could account for the slightly smaller size. This really didn't bother me as I wasn't exactly hanging out in my room all that much. Another great thing about the location of this hotel is you can hop on to the Airlink bus from the Airport and be dropped off and picked up right in front of the hotel. Also, the two city hop on-hop off bus tours (green bus and red bus) have their first stops right in front (or just around the corner) of the hotel. If you've never been to Dublin before, one of these is a must!! I believe they are both the same price and have almost identical routes. I have done both.. and I believe that they are both very good.

Temple Bar is just across the River Liffey.. Go for great Irish music, food, and entertainment. But be warned, at night this place is a bit roudy, and often considered unsafe. Just be cautious!

Wonderful experience
We arrived at the hotel around 9:00 AM, expecting to have a few hours before we could get up to the room. However, the staff was able to immediately check us in and they also upgraded our room from a double to a triple free of charge. They did warn us that the room was on the "noisier" side of the hotel due to the bar, but being on the 7th floor we never had a problem with the noise level (even when keeping our window open at night). The staff was also very helpful, answering all of our questions as needed. The only "complaint" that I have is that there were only two power outlets in the room, neither of which were in the bathroom. Otherwise, the rooms were exactly as advertised (just be prepared for their limited size).

Do Not Make any Phone Call to US
The room was small but adequate. Hotel is in great location - near Tourist Office. I had a dispute with Irish Rail over credit card charges and tried to call the credit card company collect as instructed on the card, but call was blocked and would not go through. I used the 7777 number posted by the bed to make the call. The only way I could make the call was to charge it to my credit card. When I got home they hit me with a $49 charge for a four minute call

Safe haven for my "little girl"!
My daughter is 18, and this was her firs "solo" trip overseas! Yes, I was incredibly nervous, but when she showed me the hotel, the pictures of the room and surrounding streets, the central location of the hotel, the beautiful scenery (except for the "wall" outside her bedroom window)...I was more than thrilled. She LOVED it...she has moved on to the rest of her journey to England, and this hotel has made it VERY difficult for others to stack up against it...nothing has compared to it yet. She was very thrilled! Thank you for keeping my daughter safe and easy access to everything beautiful Dublin has to offer!

Location, location, location
I had made my reservation at the Best Western based upon the reviews on this site. I was pepared for the small room sizes. The room sizes must have been designed for those elusive leprechauns. However what was so impressive about this hotel was its ideal location. It is located within walking distance of all of the major attractions of Dublin. The jump on/ jump off bus starts in front of the hotel. O'Connell Street, Dublin's most famous street, is just steps away. A lot of Ireland's history occurred here;and monuments line this street. Trinity College, St. Patricks Cathedral, Book of Kells are all within a 20 minute walk across a lovely bridge. I attended a play at the local theatre around the corner. I also was fortunate to see President Obama speak last week; the venue was 5 minutes from the hotel. My hotel room was teeny tiny but I was never in it. The decor is ultra modern, so it was very charming. I was always out and about at the nearby restaurants, Irish pubs, and historic sites. The rate is an excellent value because of the location.

I would advise eating at the local pubs off of O'Connell Street. They are less touristy and have more local flavor.
