Standard room is disappointing

Standard room is not what you see online. They first put us in a smoking room because they ran out of non smoking rooms - smelled horrible. The next day we were able to change rooms and they put us next to the laundry room where you here the dryers all day. It was a good thing we didn't spend much time in the hotel.

Two nights in Dublin

WE were in the Ashling on 4 April and were upgraded to a fantastic room so impressed we booked again for the end of May. This time we were downgraded to an attic room no airconditioning and a bathroom were the toilet bowl was right up against the washbasin and could only be used by someone without a left leg. It is a shame that some four star hotels have a three star area within them to fob off customers you think you are going to the same class as before to be dissapointed. There are lots of four star hotels in Dublin so we will not book the Ashling in future.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Red Hop on/Hop off bus stop across the street from this hotel, however, it is one of the last stops, so it took FOREVER for the first bus to arrive. We were told the first bus would get there by 9:30 am, and it didn't arrive until about 10:40. I would not recommend the hop on/ hop off from this location if you want to get anywhere in the morning. Also, at about 4:30 you can't get back on. For 52 euro for 3 of us, it would have been much cheaper, quicker, and more convenient to use taxis to get around Dublin!

Great Location for Day Trips

This hotel is located slightly outside of Dublin center which meant it was quiet - we liked that. It is also located close to Heuston Rail Station which was perfect for earling morning starts on day trips to Galway and Cork. The Luas (local tram into Dublin center) is also located at this station. That made is convenient to get into town if you chose not to take the 15-20 minute walk. A taxi is between 8-10 Euro. There aren't many restaurants close to the hotel except for FX Buckley's which was very good and had a nice pub. Our room was a standard double bed room and it was fine. No comfortable chairs, no sheets - just a duvet covered with a sheet type cover. Stain on the ceiling but not a big deal since we spend little time in the room when we travel. We're also use to Marriotts so this was different for us. The staff was not very knowledgable about the area and not very willing to help although the desk was always fully staffed. Had to pay to use their computer which we weren't use to. The bathroom was clean but twice they only gave us one washcloth instead of two and once they didn't empty our clearly full garbage cans. All in all you get what you pay for and this was a good value.

When you're out for the day, try to eat dinner before going back to the hotel since there aren't many choices there.

convienient to train station and busses

The room reeked of smoke and after complaining to staff we were moved the next day but the first night was not very pleasent. We were convienient to the train station and all bus transportation to the center of town which was only about a five to ten minute ride away.

Good but not great.

Hotel was nice and clean. Right across a major bus stop and he guinness factory. Enjoyed the stay very much. The only issue was when one of the hotel staff told us to get up leave from the bar/lounge area for eating outside food. It was passed midnight and the bartender suggested we go out to get food because their kitchen was closed. When we got he food the bartender was happy that we found the place ok so late at night. Another person comes in 5 mins later and says rudely "get up and get out" because there is to be no food there. This experience in the first hour of being at the hotel really soured the experience. Other than this incident we enjoyed the stay.

Great pre/post flight option

Very good value. Can see it from Heuston Train station, very short walk. Rooms comfortable and modern. Staff helpful. Most of our time was in the west of Ireland. Got into Dublin for one night before flying out. Very convenient to express airport bus, although this doesn't work if you have even a semi-early flight as the first bus is at 0715 and takes 30 minutes. Dublin airport clears US customs, so need to get there earlier than one might otherwise suspect. Can easily walk to all the sites in city center

Lovely Hotel in great location

I loved my time at the Ashling and I stayed for 6 days. The staff was incredibly nice, the rooms were nice and the food from the restaurant was excellent. My only complaint is that my room didn't have a refrigerator.... but that's my issue :) Everything else was perfect. The best location right across the street from the train/bus station. I highly recommend this hotel.

Comfortable and surprisingly quiet

Very comfortable "business class" hotel. Close to Heuston Train Station and a short tram ride into the City Centre. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast (although good) was a bit on the pricey side.

Excellent Hotel and Location

The staff was very professional and courteous. The location was such that it was only a 20 minute walk to the downtown area. There were other places to dine nearby; I found 'Nancy's' to be an excellent Pub with good cuisine and friendly staff...about 100 meters from the hotel.
