The Dunraven Arms is absolutely charming and full of character. Our room was fabulous - spacious, stylish and very comfortable - we wished we were staying longer than one night. We arrived late in the evening after a long day's travelling and had
already eaten dinner, but really wished we had arrived early enough to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant as it looked so inviting. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. We simply needed an overnight stop as we were travelling on to the south but had we known how good it was, we probably would have amended our plans to stay another night. The only thing missing was there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
Excellent as usual i was on a business trip. This is a wonderful hotel run by Superb Hoteliers with a passionate interest in the customer. Food service and comfort were excellent compliments to all will definately return thank you so much.

A reputable hotel will generally have good food also
This place was not fun. The bar down the road made it easier to stay in the hotel. Plumbing wasn't great. Bed was as hard as a rock. Looked like a two star hotel. The town was great and I really loved the atmosphere of the town. This hotel was
diffinately over rated. The staff whom helped with breakfast was great and the only good thing about the hotel for the money.
Although the independently owned and operated Dunraven Arms Hotel is generally well regarded, I had the misfortune of finding out that it's reputation for customer service is just a well perpetuated rumor.
I stayed here as part of a package from
a (now defunct - but that's another story) equestrian tour company. The package included lodging here - and was prepaid upon arrival, perhaps a key factor in management's response to my situation.
To make a VERY long story short, I entrusted my long saved hard earned & RARELY CARRIED $1400 CASH to the staff to put into the hotel safe for "safekeeping" along with our passports & airline tickets. Suffice to say that everything but the cash came back out of the safe. Now before you write this off as just a naive tourist being taken advantage of, consider this: 1) there were no in-room safes 2) the hotel's own safe policy did not provide for receipts being given to guests for their property placed in safe 3) it did not provide guests the opportunity to accompany staff to the safe to observe placement of one's belongings into the safe. 4) There were no types of secured container (locked box) in which to place your property before placing into the safe (Basically, your things were put in a manila envelope with your name on it.)
When I realized that my money was gone, the manager called the police, and then was largely unavailable to us for the remainder of our stay. When I did corner him to demand some type of action or compensation, I also pointed out the holes in the aforementioned safe security policy that allowed this to happen. He 1) defended his employee's loyalty ("because if any of my long time (2 year's tenure!??!) employees had a problem with theft - I'd know about it - they handle my own money"). Now I ask you, if you're going to steal, are you going to steal from your boss who you see daily or from the "easy mark" who'll be out of your country in a week??? and 2) told me that "there was no way that someone could have gone into the envelope that I gave to the clerk, removed the cash, & replaced the envelope" because he "knew" that the envelope returned to me was the same envelope I put into the safe. How, you ask? Because it had my name on it the same blue marker that my name was written on initially!! (The clerk writes the guest's name on the envelope upon initial placement!!!! Why wouldn't it appear the same??). He refused to offer me any type of compensation.
Keep in mind that we'd pre-paid with the tour operator, so leaving early (with or without paying) was not an option.
One could chalk this up to "my word against theirs", but upon check-out, we noticed that on the wall of the check in desk was a memo from the Bord Failte (Irish Tourism Board). As a member of the Board, a member property pledges(among other things) to give a guest that has any type of problem at there property 100 Euros NO QUESTIONS ASKED. We were not offered this, and when we pointed this out to the staff (since again, the manager was "in a meeting" and unavailable to us), we asked for a copy for our records. We were told that the clerk could not remove it from the frame that was bolted to the wall, but that would fax it to us when we returned home. What a surprise - it never arrived, even after repeated calls.
DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The hotel across the street, or any of the local B & B's would be better options.
