Good deal in downtown Batam
I give this hotel four stars but take that with a grain of salt. The staff, while friendly, was disorganized and ultimately dishonest. [...] The room was comparable to a $200/night hotel in San Diego, but only cost $45/night in USD. When the day came for checkout, they charged me for minibar items that were never there in the first place[...]On the bright side, the hotel is right downtown and the hotel taxi drivers are nice enough with reasonable fares to locations all around the island chain of Barelang.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Batam is most active at night, after sunset. Go for a walk around 9 or 10 PM and you'll find bustling street markets and traditional little tent restaurants galore. That's the way to truly experience the local flavor.
