Staff is Incredible

The hotel is very nice: great view of bay and mountains from the window, a short walk (at most fifteen minutes) from downtown, a 24 hour grocery store and a bank to change money right around the corner. The staff--Katrin in particular--is absolutely incredible. They organized my bus ride to the Blue Lagoon (even happily changing my pickup time twice as my plans changed) and reserved a car for me to rent. They also had great advice about what to do and what to see. I stayed in another hotel on my last night in Iceland. It cost twice as much as FossHotel Baron, but it just couldn't compare.

Take some bread to The Pond. There are a million ducks and geese that are fun to feed.

Good stay in Reykjavik

After spending days in many glorified backpacker B&B's for $100-$150 a night, it was wonderful to find a hotel at a somewhat reasonable price, wonderful service and charming room decor.

Fun in Iceland

Very convienent location. Room was clean. Computer in lobby to access e-mail. Internet access in room was advertised, but you had to pay for it. The breakfast was first rate. They opened up early for us the day we left. Staff was very pleasant. Iceland is very expensive, bring lots of money!

Just the basics

We stopped in Iceland on the last leg of a trip through Scandanavia. We arrived late in the evening, and, at first, we were disappointed upon checking in. The place seemed a little worn down, and it is far from a luxury hotel. Room was simple, and the bathroom was really, really small. There is one computer in the lobby for internet access; otherwise, you have to pay for wireless service in your room (by the hour or by the day). However, if you aren't looking for anything fancy, this fits the bill. It is clean and quiet, is within walking distance to the harbor, and main street with restaurants and shops. There was a good variety of cold foods for breakfast. Staff were helpful and very pleasant. Overall, it is a good value.

Good choice

Perfect location, close to main shopping/dining street, bur far enough that you don't hear too much of the noise on rowdy Friday and Saturday eves. Main bus station (Hlemmur) for the local city bus is nearby. If you're a couple, ask for a room in the "old" section of the hotel. Rooms are charming, with white antiqued furniture and skylights. Breakfast is included, though wi-fi is an extra charge. All in all a good value.

Use Netbus for booking tours -- their special package which included airport transfers, blue lagoon, golden circle and south shore adventure saved us $$$ over the other bigger tour groups. Our golden circle guide, [...], was great!

Great experience

Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Easy to book tours. Helpful when you arrive early. Nice breakfast but no choice in eggs, hard boiled. Make your own waffles.

Excellent Value

Spent 6 days here in April 2011 after 34 year absence. You'd be hard pressed to find a better value or nicer staff. The included breakfast buffet is an incredible value and very diverse. Downtown Reykjavik is right behind the hotel with shops, restaurants, etc. a block away. The hotel is only 100 yards from the water. The rooms are small but modern and comfortable. The only drawback is there are no tubs or shower stalls but rather a shower head in the corner of the ceiling with a wrap-around curtain. I was made to feel like family and was addressed by my name! There is a free internet console for use in the lobby. I would definitely stay here again and plan to!

Good Location, Good Price

This hotel was in a very good location, easy to walk to anything we wanted to do. All shuttle buses for tours and the airport pick up and drop off to this hotel. Very friendly staff at front desk, with good suggestions.
