The hotel is a Design/Boutique hotel with a strong focus on quality modern design, inspired by Icelandic nature, to give you modern conveniences in comfortable surroundings. Stylish bars, cafs, restaurants, museums and shops are at your fingertips when staying at CenterHotel Thingholt. The building, which originally accommodated the safold printing factory from 1943, has now been turned into a Design/Boutique hotel and is a great example of Icelandic contemporary design.

Nice hotel

I stayed here for two nights and liked the hotel. The room was really nice and we enjoyed the hotel breakfast. Our only complaint was that the room was fairly dark and there could have been more lights. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again if I visit Iceland again.

Stylish in an Ideal Location

Spent four nights here - day trips to wonderful Icelandic nature spots during the day and enjoyed the Reykjavik nightlife at night. The hotel is ideally located on the corner of "main and main" in Downtown Reykjavik (with off street parking nearby) and has a thoughtful, friendly staff. Enjoyed the regionally-inspired decor of the hotel, which provides an energy that is simultaneously soothing and urban in its appeal. My wife and I would have preferred a bit more privacy in the bathroom, which is closed off from the bedroom only be a frosted glass wall. However, this was not enough to detract from our enjoyment of the hotel and for most couples it would probably not be an issue at all. Overall highly recommended!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Pay a little extra to rent a 4x4 vehicle. The Ford Explorer was ideal for a party of four plus luggage and the all wheel drive provided us the confidence we needed to explore with ease - many of the roads are gravel/mud with steep inclines and the weather conditions were constantly changing in mid-April, with hail, snow, rain, and wind the norm (offset by short, but glorious periods of sunlight). Similarly, invest in some rain gear (Gore Tex jacket, pants, gloves and hiking shoes) before you go or in one of the stylish outdoors suppliers in Reykjavik center.

Great location in an amazing city

Hotel is perfectly situated and offers a funky, modern Icelandic vibe. The standard room is quite small, but clean and functional. The only downside to our stay was we booked the room the night before our arrival to ensure the room would be available for a very early check in. Unfortunately, the room was not ready immediately upon our arrival, but we were still charged. This was frustrating because we were quite tired and we had called the day before to ensure the room would be available. Otherwise, no complaints - pleasant staff, clean room, and quiet hotel.

Smart hotel in an excellent location.

It's a classy boutique type hotel in pretty much the perfect central location near shopping, historical area, eateries, bars, government buildings, museums, parks, etc. You can walk to everything. We even found parking right in front on the street and just had to keep feeding the central meter and keep placing the print out on your dashboard (you don't have to move your car like in the US and the meter lasts for a long long time). The reception area is smallish but nice and has a sitting area with couches and a bar too. The breakfast room is in the back and doesn't get any natural light but it's large and the breakfast is good (particularly the coffee...which was good all over Iceland). The room is a tad small (and very "white") as the beds take up most of the space. The bathroom was amply sized though the tub shower is quite large...you really have to climb in there and although the water pressure is great, it can easily spray half the bathroom. Although the hotel is next to the main drag, we didn't hear the partiers (good windows) on a Thursday night. My only critique is of the front desk staff. They are nice enough but somehow a bit slow and devoid of personality. No worries...I'd gladly stay here again and highly recommend.

Vegamont...what a place. Excellent lunch and dinner menu (huge variety...everything looked great and tasted great) and very popular among 20 somethings. Turns into quite a bar at night.

Icelandic Stay

- the AM buffet was extremely good - the staff was very helpful in booking excursions, flights, and answering questions - the hotel is in a perfect location to access donwtown Reykjavik - the rooms were extremely small, which is OK if you value location and all of the other amenities over room spaciousness - seemed to be dedicated to a younger crowd of tourists - we enjoyed our stay immensely

What a nice hotel in Reykjavik!

A very modern and comfort hotel located in the main street of Reykjavik! The staffs...superb! They also have a Mac placed in the hall for guests...and it's free! It may save your day when you need to check something in a urgent! Great atmosphere and clearness can be found in the room, the interior is very Icelandic styled. The breakfast included is higher than standard compared to others. Highly recommended!

Right Downtown

Right downtown, 2 minutes walk from shopping, dining and bars. 10 minutes walk to the church. Street parking available for 100 ISK an hour between 8:00 and 18:00. The staff was super helpful and very nice. The room was sleek, modern, comfortable and quiet. The most 'western' hotel we stayed at in all of Iceland.

Bang for the Buck!

I have been to Reykjavik on two occasions (single then couple) in the past month and stay at the same hotel. The rooms are quite new and contemporary. The deluxe rooms have more than enough space for a couple. Since I had business to conduct, the desk and free Internet were helpful. The standard rooms are large enough for a single person if your plan is to spend most of your time outside the room. I have traveled to over 100 countries and what this hotel offers for $60-$70 is outstanding value. The staff was amazingly helpful on both occassions and provided all the assistance you would expect. The location could not be better as EVERYWHERE in the center is less than ten minutes from the front door. In fact, five minutes was the longest we walked. The minibar was weak, but just as well as there is a liquor store and 24/7 supermarket a five minute walk away.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Just ask the folks at the front desk. Reykjavik is small enough, you will find it all in a weekend.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

If you think about taking a tour to any of the big attractions "Go Travel Iceland" (gti.is) is a very good operator. Good Tours, small groups, no big coach but several Jeeps, experienced and adventurous staff, fair prices, and they pick you up at the hotel.
