Excellent location and value for money

Everyone says how expensive it is to stay in Reykjavit. Well that might be the case but we found this hotel excellent value for money. The hotel was a little shabby in places or partly (badly!) renovated, but ignore that. It was clean; the staff were friendly and welcoming; the location was perfect; and plenty to eat for breakfast (try the lovely walnut bread!). I'd stay in this hotel again if I was fortunate enough to return to Reykjavit. If you are thinking of going to Iceland, don't think - do! It was in my top 10 of holidays.

Take advantage of Happy Hour in the bars as alcohol is quite expensive. Oh and don't forget your thermals!

Nice place and staff

The staff was nice and were very accommodating to our requests. The location was perfect and you can walk to many interesting sites. The only downside was the other guest who were loud and rude late at night.

If you're on foot, it doesn't get much better

Like many of our vacations, we chose not to rent a car and see the city and surroundings on foot or bus. The location on the city center square can't be beat. Restaurants and shops are everywhere, range from fast food to elegant. Note that nothing in Reykjavik is cheap, but this was very reasonable. Wonderfully friendly English speaking staff and a _very_ good included breakfast buffet with everything from herring to bacon and muesli through veggies. The room wasn't large or fancy and had some pealing paint (not a lot), but felt clean and cozy. Natural hot spring water for the showers was a unique, but not unpleasant experience. Do expect the classic "rotten eggs" sulfur smell of a hot spring, but we didn't find it objectionable and you never ran out!. Sandwich place in the plaza is great for late night munchies. "Tapas" restaurant just around the corner is a very good somewhat trendy place. Price was also quite good, so would definitely use this hotel again.

Reykjavik restaurant on the opposite corner has the most incredible (although expensive) Christmas buffet you could imagine!

It could be much better

Arrive at cold room, remote control not working, in bathroom there is no heating, light above the bed not working, lobby very small, always full of people and very noisy, dinning area very poor, like a shelter for homeless people. Only thing which could save this hotel is friendly staff.

Good central location

Reception staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast could improve, horrible lumps of scrambled egg and fried/ poached eggs were not an option on offer! Great central location, bedroom clean and I would definitely stay there again, if they start serving fried eggs & mushroom at breakfast for the non beacon & sausages eaters.

Perlan restaurant is overrated! There were people wearing T-shirts, jeans and dirty pumps. Food was nothing special and the view was disappointing.

Location Location Location- Perfect Spot in Downtown Reykjavik

Location was great. Staff friendly and helpful. Affordable price. Free full continental breakfast. 2 minutes from bus line that all day trip tours leave from. During summer though shades are not blackout shades, so bring a sleep mask and ask the hotel for a fan because frooms can get quite warm (no a/c).

Try Grill Market and Fish Market for fine dinings and Sea Baron for a casual spot (get the lobster bisque!)

Good Value In City Center

It's a good value in a great location. The rooms, however, aren't in fantastic shape, and you'd do well to request a room in the newer wing of the hotel. The older rooms (which we were originally placed in, and requested a new room due to the refrigerator not working) are pretty beat up. Cheap wood furniture decorates the older rooms, most of it with dents and scuffs. Decor in the older rooms would be classifed as minimal; you pretty much get a TV (an old one at that), a nightstand and a bed that's very soft. The new wing of the hotel, by contrast, is much nicer, with modern fixtures, a mounted HDTV, new bathrooms, and new plush carpeting. Usually I"m not a fan of carpeting in hotels, but it works here.

Hotel in Iceland

The hotel was unlike it was described in their on-line posting. No robes, no facial tissues, inconsistent changing of towels (which were very thin and ordinary). The staff was great and helpful, but the first room they placed me in had a small window the looked out on a grey cement wall about 10 feet away. It was not what I intended to book. I managed to get my room changed on the third day of my stay - up to the fifth floor, corner room, looking out on the plaza. Hard to open the window though, the piece that allows it to be opened all the way was missing. The maid finally took the information book in the room and used it as a substitute for the missing piece. Breakfast was awful. used it once and went out for a yogurt the rest of my 18 day stay.
