Bolholt Apartments Reykjavik

The location is good. It's close enough to Reykjavik to walk to the city center but far enough away to feel less crowded. We only encountered a few problems. First, I was unable to check in early or even pay for a half day. Second, the dryer did not work the whole time we were there. Finally, Cheap Tickets did not make it clear to the staff that we had already paid our reservation.

Guesthouse is near Reykjavik Hilton, Grand, etc. Rooms are nicely appointed, and mine included refrigerator and cupboards well stocked with breakfast foods, with additional breakfast stuff delivered to the room. Good price in early September through [website].

Bolholt is slightly out of town but in our opinion definatley worth the walk!

We booked rooms at Bolholt but we didn't actually stay there. Apparantly the guy who owns and runs Bolholt also owns and runs another set of apartments called Einholt Guesthouse, and he's not very organized. I e-mailed him a few days before the trip to request an early check in and he never wrote back. When we arrived at Bolholt early in the morning, there was no one at the front desk to meet us. We tried calling him but couldn't get through. We sat waiting there for about an hour, and finally started knocking on doors. One friendly guest knew the owner, called him and told him we were there waiting. After about twenty minutes the owner showed up and said that due to a scheduling mix up, he'd over-booked Bolholt and there were no rooms for us, but not to worry, we could stay in his other hostel, Einholt. He drove us in his battered truck to Einholt, and that's where we stayed. Once we got there we were happy with it. The rooms are nice and it is in a good location, easily accessible to everything in town. But the whole experience was tainted by his utter disorganization. If that one friendly guest had not had his number, we might have had to find rooms elsewhere, wasting the money we'd paid for the reservation. Also, each morning of our trip we would encounter new guests in the Einholt lobby, complaining that no one was there to meet them when they arrived and they couldn't get into their rooms until the owner showed up. He was very irregular and some people had to wait for hours until he came, just sitting in the lobby with all their luggage, wasting their precious vacation time. All in all I thought he was pretty shady and I wouldn't stay there again, despite the nice rooms and cheap cost. And I think Orbitz should think twice about continuing to do business with him, because it makes you guys look bad as well.
