Great for a quick visit, great location

This hotel was perfect for my needs... a bed in a private room at a good price in central Reykjavik. I was just in Reykjavik for 20 hours and needed a place to sleep. It may not be optimal for other travelers, however--small room, twin bed, shared bathroom, small shower. The hotel is in a great location, near the end of one of the major commercial streets of Reykjavik. The staff were friendly and helpful, and let me leave my luggage at the main desk after I checked out.

Doesn't seem like a hotel...

My stay here was not absolutely horrible (but still pretty bad!) , and I would have tolerated it more had I known up front that this was not really a hotel and if the pictures shown actually represented the place I stayed at. The bathroom was really dirty and had this weird smell to it. If you really just want a cheap place to stay and willing to sacrifice comfort, then this place is for you. I made the mistake in thinking the quality of the hotel didn't matter. The location of the hotel was really great, however.

If you get a deal, go for it

So to start - I only stayed at this hotel because of a goof up with my reservation at a much nicer property (my fault). So I booked on a very busy Saturday night when all the hotels had jacked up their prices. So I overpaid a LOT for this hotel, which colors my opinion. First - the good. The location cannot be beat. This place is located right in the center of town and is walkable to everything. We found easy street parking nearby. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There was a breakfast served in the morning, and coffee available well before most coffees shops in town open (11am!). It was clean, and there was ample hot water. The bad: If you enjoy cruise accommodations, you will like these rooms. They were TINY. I mean cruise ship cabin small. They were far from luxurious - or even comfortable really. The shower fell apart while I was in it. It was a walk up, with only stairs making it challenging to lug up large bags. In summary: If you can get one of these rooms for $80 or less US, and location is more important than comfort - it's a deal!

Good Location - Downtown Reykavik

AdaM Guesthouse has great location. Very close to Hallgrimskirkja and shops. Grocery store located next door. Refrigerator in room. Very small but comfortable room with shared bathroom between at least 6 other rooms. Had some concern about electrical. An extension cord was plugged into another extension cord and ran underneath our bed and then up the wall where the bed pillows rested against the cord. No peep hole in the door or telephone in room and had someone knocking on our door the first night at 2:00AM. Our room used a skeleton key for the lock. Manager said he had no phone for us to confirm Gray Line bookings the first day but then booked Gray Line for another guest later that week. He was not particularly helpful and at times brisk with us. Gray Line did not always stop in front of our hotel when we were supposed to be picked up for tours. Sometimes they parked at the top of the hill, sometimes behind the hotel. To get to our room we had to cross through an ice-covered courtyard. Staff did not clean a path until the end of our stay. I recommend hostel-like hotel for location and price, but not for any other reason.

A place to sleep if you aren't particular

I booked this "hotel" due to its location and the general unavailability of other hotels during my dates of stay. I have visited Iceland in the past and knew I wanted to stay in the specific area. Although I was prepared for a budget experience, I wasn't prepared for the dirty shower (with previous guest's body hair), the dirty dishes (both coffee cups had to be washed by me), and the absolutely over used pillows/bed that I slept on. This hotel was by far the roughest experience I've had in the Western world. I've slept in a $1/night hotel in Vietnam, which prepared me for this outing, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for any level of comfort. The best part of the hotel is its location and if you are simply looking for a place to crash in the center of town, this is your choice..

Should have stayed on the street

Other than a great location this place has NOTHING going for it !! There was no check in staff. I was greeted by a teenager who showed me to my room and told me to leave the keys inside when I check out. It's not really a hotel. More like a hostel except that rooms have private (tiny) bathrooms- speaking of which someone had "forgot" to flush the toilet and I guess the non-existent room service never managed to take care of that before my arrival which was past 7 pm so there was really no excuse for that. It was pointless to complain since there was only that teenager "on duty". There was however free wifi which was nice until you realize that tons of areas within the city have open wifi networks. Honestly if you're there in the summer when it NEVER gets dark and the bars are literally open all night just stay up all night !

Definitely not a hotel, nor a 3 stars!

The only pro I can come up with is the location of this accommodation. There are a number of cons against this place: 1. bathroom was extremely tiny that it is impossible closing the bathroom door while sitting in the toilet! 2. forget room service; this is a make-your-own-bed establishment. 3. no complimentary little bottles of shampoo/conditioner or shower gel, bring your own. 4. no cleaning service whatsoever during our 3 nights stay, except for towels change. 5. no hairdryer, no complimentary tea/coffee. 6. no wardrobe or chest of drawers to keep your clothes. 7. no safe deposit to keep your valuables in the room (eg. passports) 8. too expensive to pay for what we got.

Exchanging to local currency at the airport is a better deal than exchanging it prior to getting into the country.

Neither a hotel, nor a 3 star

Pros: 1. Convenient location. 2. Convenient location. Cons: 1. Super tiny bathroom, almost impossible to close the door while sitting on the toilet. 2. You got to make your own bed. 3. Very basic amenities, so bring your own shampoo, conditioner, bathsoap. 4. Remember that it is not a hotel nor a 3 star, hence no hairdryer, no iron, no ironing board, no wardrobe (just a rail to hang some clothes), and no security box to store your valuables like passports. 5. Seemed expensive for what I paid (could have easily gotten a room at DoubleTree by Hilton or The Hilton, in say Houston, in the US), and ended up getting very basic room with basic bed; but I had never stayed anywhere else in Reykyavik.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

An extremely popular vegetarian place called Grænn kostur on Klaparstigur 8b. Always crowded; the food is good and the price is excellent compared to everything else in Reykyavik. Cafe Babalu in Skolavoroustigur 22a is overrated! Stay away from the lasagna, as well as the vegetarian chili!

Perfect little place

Listen, if you want to watch TV and get a massage...why are you in Iceland? If you want to be pampered, this is not the place. If you want a GREAT little room with a wonderful staff that is SUPER convenient and cozy, to lay your head down in at night. This is the spot! I loved it! Despite what Google Maps might tell you (I petitioned for a change) this hotel is literally 2 buildings away from Hallgrimskirkja. NOT 2 blocks. 2 buildings. 100 feet. There is a small grocery downstairs. C is for Cookie (great coffee shop!) is 2 blocks away and downtown is a 5 minute walk. Once again, this isn't a Westin. This is a place to sleep. In my room, I had a fridge so I could keep drinks and food(necessary if you are an early riser like me. The town is not. Hard to find coffee or food before 9). There is also a small microwave and coffee maker. It was very tiny, but again, I was there to see as much of Iceland as I could and when I returned at night, I slept here and I couldn't be happier. I WILL return to Iceland and I WILL stay at the AdaM.

ALL of the tours will pick you up outside the hotel. They make mini-bus runs to pick everyone up AT their hotels. VERY convenient and included in the price of the tour. Drink coffee and grab a small bite at C is for Cookie!
