Icelandair Hotel Akureyri opened in 2011 with 63 brand new rooms in modern style that are designed for your optimum comfort. In-room facilities include a TV, telephone and coffee/tea making facilities. Each room has bathroom facilities, including a shower and a hairdryer. WIFI available (a fee will be charged). In June 2012 38 rooms will be added to the hotel. A ski storage room is available for our winter guests and there will be a special entrance to this room on the ground floor. The hotel is located at Thingvallastraeti 23, which is beside the town's main camping site, just across the street to the local outdoor swimming pool and a 18-hole golf course minutes away. Akureyri is the second largest urban area in Iceland, after the capital area of Reykjavk, with a population of about 17200. Akureyri is the centre of trade and services in northern Iceland. It is also a town of culture and education, building on a firm foundation. Akureyri is a great base for touring the rugged northern coastline, with idyllic Lake Mvatn an hour by car and the Hrisey Island bird sanctuary is just a short ferry ride away. Nearby are Kjarnaskogur and Vaglaskogur woodlands and top salmon, trout and sea fishing. In early summer, the sight of the sun hovering over the horizon at midnight is unforgettable.

Restaurant: The restaurant is on the ground floor of the hotel and seats 85 people. You can walk out on a sunny terrace facing south. Breakfast buffet is available from 7:30 to 10:00 every day. From October 1st 2011 - February 29th 2012 the restaurant will only be open for dinner on Friday and Saturdays from 18:00 to 21:30. The menu reflects the freshest ingredients available each season and includes for example saltfish from local fishermen, blue mussel from Hrisey and beef is from local farmers in Eyjafjordur.
Bar: A warm and inviting lounge with a fireplace and books welcomes you. The bar is cosy and modern with a Happy Hour everyday between 17 and 19.
