Located in the heart of Akureyri, gateway to the rich natural splendor of northeast Iceland, Hotel Kea has been welcoming guests since 1944 with the same high standards of elegance, quality, service and comfort which would be expected of one of Iceland's well-established hotels. The hotel offers four halls for meetings and conferences, bars and restaurant.Comfort, rest and relaxation come easily in all of the 104 bedrooms. They all have private bathroom, coffee and tea, making facilities hairdryer, telephone, radio and satellite television. There is room service from morning till evening and same day dry cleaning, to mention but few of the benefits of staying with us.

Stayed in six hotels in five towns on this trip and this was probably the best. I prefer higher end hotels, and don't love Scandinavian style hotels in general - because too stark, firm beds, no queen/king beds (just two twins pushed together),
generally lackluster bathroom amenities. That said, and yes this hotel is all of those things, this was one of the nicest. More spacious, comfortable, and nice lobby that didn't feel like you're standing in one of the small, bare, rooms. Staff was great. This is probably as good as it gets in Iceland.
We spent two nights but wished we had three. Great town for people-watching, eating out, and shopping, but our favorite activities were out of town--on the water and hiking. Hotel top-notch. Great service and breakfast. Our room was spacious,
but on the sunny side of the hotel, which made it rather hot in the mornings. Would definitely go back, though. Great location, too.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short drive from hotel
Take the ferry from Dalvik Harvbour to Grimsey Island! It's inside the Arctic Circle--great puffins to see from about five feet away. A highlight of our Iceland trip.
The hotel was nice and clean just a little over priced for what it was. We had a nice view from our room with a balcony however it was a shared balcony which was a little weird. The breakfast that was included was good and the location was
great. Our only real compliant was that it was most expensive hotel we stayed at in iceland and it wasn't the nicest one.
