Ideal Budapest hotel

Hotel Castle Garden was definitely the best hotel choice we could have made in Budapest. It was small, friendly, new, and provided excellent service. We ate in the restaurant our first evening there and our meal was excellent. With our 20% off for being a hotel guest, the price was very resaonable. The included breakfast was so good! There were many selections, including hot items each day. The location was perfect. We were 2 minutes from the gate to the Castle District and a short walk to the metro and a huge mall. We could easily catch transportation to the Pest side or walk to it across the Chain Bridge. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Budapest. The price was the best we could find and everything about the hotel made it a good value.

Lovely, modern hotel in the Buda Hills

I booked this hotel based on previous reviews, and I found my experience to be quite similar. It was reasonably-priced, new, clean, and included several ammenities like free internet and breakfast that I found to be qutie convenient. The staff spoke good English and were friendly and helpful in answering questions, providing directions, and booking tours. They also gave me a take-out breakfast for my early morning flight, which was very convenient! There's no clock in the room, so bring a travel alarm clock. I ate in the restaurant my first night there, mostly because I was too jet-lagged to find anything else. The meal was reasonably-priced but pretty disappointing (N.B. don't order fish in Budapest). The menu is mostly Italian-inspired and doesn't offer any traditional Hungarian options, but the food doesn't even come close to Italian food in America (or Italy!). However, I ordered the chocolate souffle for dessert and it was one of the most memorable dishes I've ever had...a beautiful presentation of chocolate with cherry-ginger compote, fresh fruit, and vanilla ice cream. Definitely try it! The location of the hotel--or rather more generally of staying in Buda vs. Pest--was a bit disappointing if you're looking for a lot of nightlife and restaurants. There are quite a few restaurants in walking distance to the hotel in the "Castle District," but they are pricier than most in Pest. Also, most of the tourist attractions besides the Baths (museums, cathedral, synagoge, Opera House, etc) are in Pest, so do your homework first before you pick a side to stay on). On the other hand, the Buda side offers beautiful architecture and a nice respite from the bustling city. I was traveling alone and made use of the public transit (There is a stop on the red line a few blocks from the hotel, down a sizable hill, so watch out if you have any mobility problems). However, I would not have felt comfortable by myself walking from the subway at night. The walk is a bit deserted, and I found that fewer people in Buda than in Pest spoke reliable English. I would also suggest practicing some Hungarian before you visit. It's VERY difficult to catch on to quickly, and I found myself pretty lost outside of the main touristy areas where everyone spoke English. Familiarize yourself also with the public transit before you get there. I got lost one day by taking the wrong bridge from Pest and realized afterwards that instead of walking almost 2 hours back to the hotel, I could've hopped easily onto the #18 yellow tram.
