Look Elsewhere

The hotel has a renovated part and a non-renovated part. The low prices are the non-renovated portion. The rooms there are at best one to two stars. The air conditioning is poor. The mattress is terrible. The plumbing is old. We left early and they refused to give us the remaining prepaid portion. Stay elsewhere and remain happily married. They advertise four stars and they are at best two.

good location but not quite 4 stars

Hotel lobby and hallway areas are rather dark; not good first impression. Room itself is satisfactory with remodeled bath. Breakfast is very nice. Not quite best location, yet very convenient to metro.

OK hotel, would not recommend.

The lobby decor and restaurant were worthy of four stars. The hotel room while neat and clean reminded me of a motel room from the 1960's. The cleaning staff were pleasant but the front desk staff were ice cold and never broke a smile. I don't expect them to be my best friend, but they were totaly indifferent and didn't even ask about my stay or a thank you when I checked out.

Our stay at the Astoria Budapest

The staff was friendly and helpful at the front desk. The only problem with this hotel is that the restaurant staff was to busy chatting with each other and not paying enough attention to all 6 people eating there. We had to get up to get any type of service, including to pay. The service was not good, however the food was good.

The air of old times...

The hotel was quite difficult to navigate to in my car with many of the surrounding streets closed for a Sunday fair or under construction. Once I found the hotel, getting to the garage was even more painful. On the other hand, coming from an airport or train would be quite easy because it is right at a subway station called Astoria :) The hotel itself has an air of times long past. It feels like an oasis of the 19th century in the busy world of the 21st. It is an older building and you can feel this was once a major hotel in the city, but it all lies in the past. Now its a small hotel with a lot of charisma and a good price for being right in the center of the city with easy access to subway and walking distance to anywhere you want to go.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Go take the walk along the banks of Danube and across the bridge to the Buda Castle and once you are there, make sure you walk all the way around the ramparts. Very nice views and romantic setting.

Good value near central Budapest

I stayed at the Hotel Astoria for 5 nights recently and had a lovely time in Budapest. They offer the option to upgrade to a deluxe room, but I stayed in the standard room. The room was clean and a very generous size for a European hotel room. The hotel is right above the Astoria metro station and the 47/49 tram runs right next to it, so it is fairly convenient to get around the city. It is also only a short walk from the river. I did not have the 15 Euro breakfast, since there are many coffee shops and bakeries in the neighborhood. With the windows closed the room was quiet, but on Friday and Saturday nights it could be a bit loud outside if you wanted to keep the windows open. The biggest drawback to the hotel is the lack of free wireless in the rooms.

It is refreshing to come across a hotel that dates back to the thirties. Clean , excellent service, staff who obviously like their job. We will certainly go back

Classic hotel

Hotel with classical style: rooms are quite large and with good interior but there's no wi-fi, available only in the hall.
